i am having trouble getting a bash prompt on my new t60. i haven't done this for a while and am a little rusty. anyway, i was hoping to get the lifetime without having to use the bash. captian video, i saw a post where you said you do this all the time. if you could pm the steps i'd really appreciate it.

anyway, i can't get a bash prompt, i'm thinking it must be my cable, but this cable worked for me before in the past.

so i restore a good image and put the HD back in the tivo, it downloads the new software and updates the database, no bash. so i take it out and put it back in the pc to upgrade to 2.5.2 but the iso that i burn doesn't have the upgrd252 directory on it. i've burned the image 3 times using nero and blindwrite also straight with windows. everytime, the disk doesn't have the upgrd252 directory or anything in the iso image??? what the hell is going on.

everytime, it looks like the standard disk with

bin, boot, cdrom, dev, etc, floppy, lib, linuxrc, mad, mad31, mad32, maddtb4, mfstools-1.0, mnt, proc, root, sbin, tag, tivonet, tmp, usr, var, zaptivo.

no upgrd252 or upgrd31 or anything that is on the xupgrade iso??? how could this be happening???? please help before i just smash all this stuff and go back to normal dtv.

i'm not a newb either, i wrote a little how to for the t60 a year ago and can't believe i can't get a bash prompt now and can't even get an iso to burn correctly. yes i burned an iso and not a data disk.

You'll find my tutorial on installing 2.5Xtreme and the 2.5.2 upgrade in the How To's Only sticky in the DirecTivo Hacking forum. It's on page 4 of the thread. If you let the DTivo download the OS update naturally then you wiped any hacks you may have previously installed.

Does the xupgrade ISO CD boot properly in your PC? If so then you should be able to install either upgrade as indicated in the tutorial.

but yes the disk does boot. i had to mkdir a and mount /dev/hda /a and was able to find the upgrd252 directory. but when i run the upgrd252.sh it says that the boot record is read only and it aborts. i can't remember the exact error but i could get it for you if you could help. is there a way to get lifetime w/ out getting a bash? since i can't get bash on this t60??

thanks

If you can't get bash then it doesn't sound like 2.5Xtreme was installed correctly or there's a problem with your rc.sysinit file or something else that is preventing bash from being called during bootup. This may also be the cause of your error when attempting to perform the 2.5.2 upgrade. You might want to consider performing a fresh install from scratch. You should be able to install 2.5Xtreme and the upgrade in about an hour, including the time for flashing the EEPROM and building the database. It may save you a lot of aggravation by going this route.

ok, thanks for the reply. but why was i getting this error when trying to run upgrd252.sh?? i saw others had it happen and they said it was a bad burn or something, but i'm made like 4 copies and i can't run upgrd252.sh without mounting hda and cd'ing to the /a/upgrd252/ directory and then it will run but will give the error i mentioned.

i'll download a new 25xtreme and start over.

thanks so much for you help.

ok, i restored the ice image to my 40gb tivo and am trying to run the 2.5.2 upgrade but am still getting this error.

./upgrd252.sh: ebpout: read only file system
cat: ebpout: No such file or directory

boot parm on hdc unrecognized + ' '
cannot continue -- processing aborted.

i can't run upgrd252 from the #/. it says upgrd252.sh command not found or something like that.

if i mount my hda to a folder and cd to upgrd252 directory and run it, i get the above error.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what to tell you about your problem since I've never experienced it myself. You might want to look into Superzap's xupgrade sticky thread in the DirecTivo hacking section. If you can't find anything about your specific problem there then that would be the right place to post your questions. Superzap supports his upgrade and should be able to help you out better than I can.
