Hello folks. I'm an original Ultimate TV owner. I've played with my UTV box for over 3 years now, and since M$ is not going to support this unit any longer, I have decided to make the jump to a Tivo.
I have a fair amount of knowlegde of digital video, have used Macs for years and have been lurking in these Tivo forums for awhile trying to get the feel for things. One of the main reasons for me to switch is the fact that I cannot obtain pure "digital" files from my UTV, I have to use my Digicam via the S-video port and "transcode" if I want to import to computer or burn to DVD.
I like the Home Media Network thing that Tivo has, along with many other things.
My question to you all is this: What should I buy? I've seen conflicting reviews and such from various folks about what can and can't be done with the various units. I believe that DirecTV will offer me some sort of rebate or discount for switching to the Tivo, but I'm interested in the "hacker" folks opinions the most.
