I have hacked my S2 and now slowly understanding why linux can be so great, but I have a general question concerning the mfsbackup and restore.
I am going to get a new hdd for my pc this Xmas and my old one was 20 gig (only about 3 gigs used, 1 partition), and I want to know if I can clone that drive like the orig tivo drive, and place it on my new hdd with mfsbackup and mfsrestore. Or would another program be needed and if so which one? I know johnny deaths cd doesn't recognize NTFS, and both my old drive and new drive for x-mas will be this format.
TIA for any advice

I think you are asking how to clone your PC drive to a newer, larger one.
If that's the case, Norton Ghost will do the job. There are other products out there, but this appears to be the most popular one.

Driveimage is also a popular tool for cloning/expanding disks on the Windows platform. Obviously none of these tools are designed to work with Tivo's proprietary filesystem.
Don't get the wrong impression about Mfstools: it sucks hard and it's based on stolen code. It is a one trick pony that happens to perform its trick very poorly.

LMAO! Thanks guys for your help, and setting me straight on that program. I thought it was a gift from god, however this noob has been taught otherwise.
Do you know what is required to clone a drive?
example: Old drive, Drive to store image, new drive that's getting the old drive image?

Most programs will do a direct drive to drive copy.
Some require you to boot from another drive though (can be a floppy or CD) so files are not locked by the operating system.
Good luck

chances are the new drive will come with factory cd or floppy with the software you need. Most major brands come with them. If it doesnt, go to the new drove website and download it. Just boot with the cd or floppy,(make sure bios is enabled to boot to the software first) and make sure your jumpers are right and jsut copy. THe software that comes with them often sucks, but is good enought to copy the drive easily, and is usually free........

What drive have you purchased that comes with duplication software?
