Greetings all,

Got a wonderful pile of @#$%^ (ebay) dsr6000. Getting the infamous "Almost there" message. Removed motherboard and found that the modem is non functional. The resistor/capacitor or whatever is burnt L4 to L9 on the mobo. Does anyone out there have a part number or general part information for this part? Here is a picture of the problem.

Ask one of the mods to lock or move this thread to the hardware forum. Greek will probably reply. There is a schematic of the sony sat-t60 floating around the web also. You can take a look at that and figure out what that part is you blew out. It is probably a cap or resistor.

You'll find the schematic for the Sony SAT-T60 in the Experts forum. The mainboard is identical to the DSR6000. You can find info on repairing the modem at the 9th Tee website. There is a link for ElectricLegs at 9th Tee who can repair the modem for you or provide you with a kit of parts to repair it yourself.

either remove the modemtest with a serial cable, or get a version of 3.1, the new versions have no modemtest in the software, and will boot if thats the problem. Anything on the IC2 bus will stop booting if its bad, almost there can be alot of other things, but most likely is #1 modemtest (since your modem is obviously bad) and #2 bad tuner(s). If modemtest doesnt work, remove one tuner at a time until it boots. ALso visible damage to U38 or U37 will cause a hang too if its burnt up............

Hi,

Just for reference L usually designates an Inductor. Chances are L4 and L9 are ferrite bead inductors. These could be ordered from digikey, and thay are primarily there to filter any high frequency noise from the tivo, corrupting the phone line. The bad new is, if the inductors are blown, then most things connected to them will probably be blown as well.
