Phone needed

I was wondering if you NEED a local phone line to download info. I am seriously thinking of getting a Tivo, and paying for the subscription.

Thing is, I dont have a local line phone, I just use a cell phone as my one and only phone. What can I do about this? Does that make it impossible.

What if it is hacked with lifetime subscription does it need to be hooked to a phone line to download info there either?

With cable you can only use a SA Tivo. If you want the program guide then you must have a phone line and a legit Tivo sub to obtain it. If you can find some other way of getting guide data to your Tivo then go for it. My recommendation - if you have a clear line of sight to the DTV sats then dump your cable and go with DTV. The DTivo is definitely the way to go and cable sucks anyway.

no biggie I will just go legit, can I still hack the tivo to say increase the hard drive size? can I do anything else to improve it while still staying legit?
