Why is SO wrong to talk about using HU cards because everyone assumes they are stealing DirecTV?

BUT

What about the STEALING everyone who uses Xtreme with the Lifetime Sub hack is doin??? Its the SAME THING. You are stealing from TiVo by NOT paying thier monthly fee. Too many hipocrits on here...

makes NO SENSE

disagree with the rules all you want, but the rules are the rules. the hu hack has no legitimate purpose. i always figured there was only one group who needed it - those who stole dtv. i was wrong, there is another group - those who are eternally lazy and stupid. the bottom line is that dtv will gladly send you the appropriate access card, there is NO legitimate reason to require HU cards on your reciever. like it or not, deal with it.

now, as for the lifetime sub thing. yes, fixsub has been abused by many to obtain free service. however, that was not the goal, it is a tool designed to ensure privacy and to help prevent upgrades. thankfully, as of version 3.x, dtv has taken over the tivo subscription management, which means that the only public way to steal tivo service is to hack your access card.

face it - fixsub has legitimate uses, and we are agressive about dealing with those who intend to steal service with it. the hu hack has no legitimate purpose. if you dont like the rules, then find another place to post. have a nice day.

What exactly are you stealing from them?

It's probably also worth pointing out that, regardless of what any individuals feel about theft of service, this is a legal issue for the site administrators. If people post discussions about theft of service, it compromises the entire site (and the ISP, I suspect).

Of course, that's not to mention that the administrators have every right to make whatever rules they want. I've been on some non-tivo forums that have ridiculous rules, but that's the nature of the beast.

At this point, fixsub gets rid of an unneccesary annoyance for DTiVo users. You pay the fee as part of your DirecTV package. Those folks with DTiVos in vehicles don't get screwed and anyone without a phone jack right at the TV doesn't have to snake a cord.
