If this is true, it might be just the ticket for everything we typically do except burning discs. The reported CPU is powerful enough for realtime filtering during playback, i.e., help limit the visual effects of less-than-optimal compression. Reported list price for the entry unit is $299 USD. It could be a VERY interesting year! Maybe Riley would take his s-link interface to this thing.

Christ, it's gonna run WinXP??!! How often will that thing need to be rebooted.

Has Apex ever built anything designed to last more than 93 days?

Has Apex ever built anything designed to last more than 93 days?I have an Apex DVD player from early 2000 (a model 600) that still works fine.

There aren't a lot of tech details but the CPU at 1.4 should be just fine for zoomplayer and ffvfw/ffdshow which means active filtering to remove compression artifacts. I didn't see any mention of heatpipes. Can't tell what it has for serial ports. Am starting to research JVC's wired protocol. Would be real cool to have this do wired and IR control of other components via overlay and a wireless pointer of some sort. Guess I need to get up to speed on Girder. Doesn't look like there's any expansion areas or firewire. Wonder if there are USB2 ports in the back. The writeup says there are 6 but only 4 ports are on the front. Via has been trying to get into this market for years. Maybe it will finally explode for them.
