Okay -- after 2 months of studying this I am beat!

While I conceptually understand what is required to hack my TIVO -- how scrambling and unscrambling works, how to work with hard drives - setting them up in your PC etc --

Learning all the Linux commands necessary to complete the work and the ones to get myself out of trouble when I make a mistake is beyond me.

I am however committed to extracting my scrambled video and archiving it on DVD. So I reject the idea of shipping off my system off to a place like PTV Upgrade and losing all my scrambled shows and starting over from scratch. Just so that I can start archiving unscrambled shows. I also reject the idea of taking the shows off Anaolog vis Svideo and reconverting them

So I would like to work with someone to learn how to do this in the NJ area?

Any takers? We will work out a fair exchange.

Just a heads up, you cant extract streams that are already scrambled, wont work. What you have on there will be blown away when you hack it, so your better off biting the bullet and just hacking the easy way. BOth ser1 and ser2 can be done pretty easily......

Actually, I think, for S1 you CAN unscramble them on the fly during extraction.

I didn't see where he stated what kind of tivo and I only have S2s but for S1 tivos the horizon is brighter.

Nutcase is right you can extract on the fly -- open show for 3-5secs

I have a Series 1 SOny SAT T60 with second hard drive 130hrs with software 3.1.ob2.

I just assumed you were talking ser2 when you said "all the linux commands" You dont technically run ANY linux commands in a ser1 to install, unless you consider pressing enter or typing a filename linux..........

EDIT: just to be clear and for your prospectives, are you asking for somebody to hack your ser1 and keep all your shows and settings you have now? ie you want to pull and replace the shows you have to a new hacked image?

If you know you can extract on the fly. What seems to be the problem? Are you just looking for someone to install your turbonet board for you?

My end goal is to 1) take off about 25+ shows and convert/archive to DVD or HDD - and delete them off TIVO and 2) from that point on turn off scramble and pull shows off for DVD or HDD storage as I chose

All this would be done using a PC with over a home network.

I was hoping to find someone in NJ that would help me set this up and that I could learn from.

I see you have done your homework. I think what you really want is someone to help you enable bash on your existing software.

Yes I would like that and a bit more -- I have been trying to do my homework long nites of late evening reading -- including some of the most latest information posted by AlphaWolf -- which now puts a whole new spin on things regarding handling scrambled and unnscramble Dtivos.

http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31213

Notice how he starts off saying -- Do the following: (FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY) -- I know enough that when someone experienced says -- "follow these instructions very carefully" that if you don't something that could take many hours to undo with a number of requests for hlep -- that experienced members sometimes find frustrating... (and I only have a limited number of 12a-4a nites in me)

SO basically I am looking for help from someone to do this right the first time! (or at least greatly increase my chances that it is done right and I dont get a response from a senior member here -- OH sorry dude you fried your data shows or TIVOAPP)

Just make sure you pull off all your video before you apply patch. Too bad I am on the left coast because I think it would be a fun project.
