The quickest way to get a threatening letter from Tivo's legal department, is to put their images up for download and then post the info on a public message board.

Can slices also get you in the same shitstorm? I guess i'll take it down. Thanks for the heads up.

If it's their proprietary, non-GPL code, then yes.

Hello. I found an HDVR2 at a flea market with a bad hard drive. Just got back from Sams Club with a new 160 gig drive to breath life back into this sucker.

I would love to slap on a pimped out (large drive support, MRV, HMO and all that stuuf) 6.2 image file if someone could send me the file, an ftp link, or a personal web site address.

I've been checking edonkey with no luck.

My email is steveholtam@yahoo.com

THANK YOU!!!

Steve

Has a 7.1b image been released into the wild yet?

I can't find any referances around here.
Searched through this thread and most of the noob forum.

Thanks

I have spent the entire morning searching for a copy of xtreme25 that I would like to use to hack my T60. I have searched DDB and several other sites to no avail. I have tried searching for torrents, I have searched in LimeWire, and I have Googled it everyway I could. I just can't find it. Is it not available or am I missing something? Can someone point me in the right direction? Thank You.

I just started sharing one on emule for you. Here's the link..

ed2k://|file|SonyT60_25XtremeG.zip|167851211|3E1D86F2AD020354444A5E4DB47F63EE|h=UWM4Q3ZBUBFJEIAZVNKHPI73RYT RIID3|/
Note that 25xtreme will not work by itself (you won't get locals). After you install it, then upgrade to 3.1 using this xtreme upgrade with xPlusz:

Each has its own support thread in the Series 1 Support forum. Personally, I prefer xPlusz. Good luck.

Now I feel stupid. I never used emule before. I downloaded the emule client version 0.46a (hopefully right) but I can't find a place to enter the codes that you were kind enough to share. I come here needing help with a TiVo issue and it looks like I need to learn emule.... lol. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.

In emule, go to tools, then "paste eD2K links". Paste the links above, and then watch them download under under "transfers".

Well I have spent the entire day trying to get this eMule thing to work for me and everytime I try to downlad the files it just sits there and says "WAITING". So it has become obvious to me that I do not know what I am doing. If there is another way to do this could you let me know? If not I would like to thank you for your patience and genorosity. I desperately need these files but I also do not want to waste anyone's time.

Thanks again.

eMule's credit system rewards users who upload back on to the network. When you first start out, your credits will be low, so you're placed in a queue when you try to download. Just leave emule connected overnight, and by the morning you'll have the files. For more info, here (http://www.emule-help.com/) is a decent site to get you started.

I don't need it to be hacked, I've figured that part out, thanks to the great people around here.

If there is a small image like Alphawolf made for 6.2 I'd be forever grateful.

If anyone has a simple backup of their 7.1b or 'a' that would be fine too.

Thank you for your kind generosity,

I've been reading and searching and to no avail. Can someone help me out with 3.1.5 for TCD24004A? The 3.1.5 kernel on the PTVupgrade cd IS the correct one to hack 7.1b. I suggest you read the 7.1 support thread. (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40715) If you can't find the answer there, post the serial console output AND the steps you've taken to hack it.

PlainBill

I think I have some idea of the problem that I need to overcome first (besides finding a darn serial mouse around this house to make a cable with). These are my steps:

1) Used instantcake to setup drives (2) (No good reason for doing this with both drives, except no foresight).
2) Booted them in the tivo and did the erase everything.
2) Got the 7.1b update pushed to me and all program info loaded.
3) Made sure that it would record, etc and put the drives back in the PC as primary master (a) and slave (b).
4) Mounted my fat32 partition /dev/hdd1 as /dos and Used mfstools 2.0 to make a backup:
mfstool -1so /dos/tivo.bak /dev/hda /dev/hdb
5) shutdown and removed the tivo B drive, so I would only have to worry about swapping one drive back and forth until everything was working.
6) booted the mfstools 2.0 disk again, mounted the fat32 part to /dos and did mfsrestore /dev/hda -i /dos/tivo.bak which completed successfully.
7) shutdown and took out my fat32 drive.
8) booted to PTV LBA48 4.01 w/enhancements disk and did bootpage -p /dev/hda. Received root=/dev/hda4
9) cd /tmp, mountcd, cp /cdrom/s2_kernels/3.1.5/vmlinux.px.gz ., gunzip vmlinux.px.gz
10) dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda3 and /dev/hda6 (received 3 in 2 out, out of space)
11) dd if=vmlinux.px of=/dev/hda3 and /dev/hda6 (received 1 in 1 out)
12) mounted /dev/hda4 to /mnt/tivo, cd /mnt/tivo/sbin, mv iptables iptables.old, vi iptables:
i
#!/bin/bash
exit 0
wq
chmod 755 iptables
cd
umount -a
shutdown and placed the A drive in the tivo (still jumpered as master) and stuck at "Welcome. Powering Up..."

BUT

I did this several times w/ no luck, so I said let me just do the restore and try the drive with no hacks or anything.

Still stuck at "Welcome. Powering Up..." no reboots. :(

I hate the waiting for everything to update, but I guess I'm back to instantcake again.

If I immediately replace the 4.01b kernel after instantcake, will the mothership overwrite it while installing the 7.1b updates? Will the erase everything (which I know I'll probably have to do to be able to record shows) mess up the 3.1.5 kernel.

If any of these are dumb or lazy questions, let me know. I'll get back on that search button (will do that anyways), but any assistance will be appreciated. I Have 7 DDB windows open right now and really tried my best not to post and be one of us newbs begging for hand holding.

I will start by researching the "erase everything" process right now.

Thanks!

P.S. I replied this here becuz PlainBill asked for more info. My apologies for being off topic. Please move to wherever you see fit.

First of all, my mistake; I meant to say "If you can't find the answer there, post the serial console output AND the steps you've taken to hack it in a new thread in the Newbie forum. Perhaps a mod will move this section to a new thread.

By the results of the bootpage command, something is seriously scrogged somewhere. It could happen while downloading the Instantcake image, while burning the cd, or writing the image to the drive.

Suggested troubleshooting procedure: Run InstantCake AGAIN, check to see if bootpage -p /dev/hda and pdisk -l /dev/hda return reasonable results. If not, check cabling to the drive, try a different computer, etc. Also, try 'bootpage -P /dev/hda "root=/dev/hda4 dsscon=true console=2,115200 upgradesoftware=false" -C /dev/hda' followed by 'bootpage -p /dev/hda'. If bootpage now returns what you put in, it's likely the problem is in the image or the cd; if it still returns garbage, the problem is most likely in the hardware.

If you haven't already done so, download the client from www.emule-project.net and configure it.

Several very handy buttons include: Transfers - see what you are receiving and sending; Search - see what is available (ALWAYS do a Global Server search); and Tools - which allows you to insert links.

Hi guys,

I'm not a 'newbie' exactly, but I'm having a major issue. My original 60 hour SA S2 was upgraded to 7.1b, I did a mfsbackup and created an image. However, I have not been able to do an mfsrestore on it - I'm getting a "decompression error" at like 99.9%. I'm upgrading to a 100gb HDD.

My original TiVo drive has since died - can anyone help me here? I'm assuming I need a copy of the image. Does anyone have an image for the 7.1b for a SA S2 TiVo? Any help is greatly appreciated, I've spent an entire day working on this.

Thanks!

So my hard drive in my dsr7000 crapped out and I finally have the time to mess around (along with my wifeís patience thanks to a spare tivo I picked up on ebay) and install some hacks. I really like the idea of the HMO and have been looking for a 4.X image but I havenít gotten anywhere with p2p, bt, or any form of exhaustive internet searching.

If someone could PM me with any info on how to get an image Iíd really appreciate it. I just thought Iíd try a grovel before dealing with PTV upgrade.

There are 4.0.1x images on the eD2k network. Download the emule client at www.emule-project.net, install it, and do a global server search for tivo. Alternatively, there is no reason to run 4.0.1 anymore. 6.2 is fully hackable. An image can be found on the same network - search for dtivo.

That's usually either a setup problem, or because you are not doing a Global Server search. (When I have a similar problem I usually refer to it as a failure in the link between the keyboard and the chair).

They actively go after anyone hosting/distributing their images without prior approval. Selling their images is probably worse. I would expect a letter from their lawyers as soon as they find your site.

If you want a truly minimal mfs image, you want to do something like this (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29775&highlight=mfs+scratch).

I had to make some modifications to the scripts to get them to work with 7.1 (failures due tp too many open dbobj's). One of those things on my stack of stuff to eventually clean up and post. A minimal 7.1b-240 image ended up at ~ 75MB. The 540 images are bigger, due to more eye candy in the loopsets.

Hi,

Just looking for a simple, clean 6.2 image for a series 2 (Hughes HDVR2). My drive is dead/dying, have a spare drive that I want to put a clean image on.

I can deal with most any retrieval method but edonkey.

Thanks!

edit:

Got it, someone with dug it up on edonkey for me. Drive was really dead when I put it in the linux box, lots of hard read errors. Threw the clean image on a 60 gigger with mfsrestore and it's working like a charm.

Now I get to dig through the archives to find out how to hack the version on my nice new 120GB drive. :)

Do not submit any info to this site...

It clearly states on the main page..
"This service is for demo purposes only. No real products. No real prices. No real charges. Please do not submit real credit card information."

In addition, I know of only two sites authorized to sell Tivo backups, and this is not one of them.

.... Edit ....

As I was about to sumbit this reply, I reread it and noticed this is your site.
Since you are not authorized to sell Tivo images, you should not be charging members of this forum. I mentioned to you in an earlier post that the Tivo Inc. folks actively pursue people distributing their images without express permission. If you want to risk it feel free, but don't try to squeeze money out of the members here. At $7 per image download, you are not just covering bandwidth, you are making profit... or you are paying way too much for your bandwidth. Either way, members here don't make a profit on one another.

Oh... and there is no commercial advertizing allowed here.

joverby540
09-18-2005, 11:54 AM
Well like I said, I just wanted to see if it works, so try out the coupon. I still need to work out a few bugs. Also, I haven't really decided on a final price yet, as I am not trying to make a profit. Anyway, when the coupon runs out I will generate a new one to keep things free and see how much bandwith is being used.

Yes, I'm lazy. :) I hacked all my s1's and s2's and no longer have the time or patience (or desire). I just want to get my 250 working with TiVoWEB, FTP, Telnet and ELSEED & a Netgear FA120 USB Network adapter (or a Linksys USB200M) like the DSR6000 was doing for the last couple years with TurboNet and cachecard.

Anyone have an image of a network enabled HR10-250? Would be more then happy to pay shipping and make a donation to the charity of your choosing in your name.

I should be getting the HR10-250 tomorrow (if DTV shows up). I have a pair of 400gig Seagates ready to drop in.

The ones on emule are 'virgin', I don't know about the others. Run killhdinitrd against one - it'll tell you if the kernel has already been altered. (A win-win situation).

this is the version 3.1.1e
3.1.1e will run on a DSR704 (and all other Series 2 DirecTiVos), but does not run on the DSR6000 (a Series 1 DirecTiVo).

If you want an original 3.1.1e kernel you will probably have to download a 3.1.1e image from the ed2K network (get the emule client from www.emule-project.com), install it on a spare drive and extract the kernel.

If you want to hack 3.1.1e, you will need a killhdinitrd 3.1.1c kernel. This (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?p=233220&postcount=591) post and the one following it have links to virgin and killhdinitrd kernels.

apparently the 6.2.dtivo.minimal.AlphaWolf_HK.zip file I grabbed is corrupt... When doing a mfsrestore on it it just hangs at 34% ... I reburned the image several times with the same results... I was copying the file around on my harddrive and windows reported a CRC error as well.

Anyway to fix this? Should I just try to grab another copy? Anyone else run into this issue?

I downloaded 6.2.dtivo.minimal.AlphaWolf_HK.zip again from emule and am still having the same problems.

I tried burning the file to cd from 2 different computers, put it on a spare second HD and tried to restore from that, burned the CD about 8 times... every time mfsrestore just hangs at some point in the restore process.

I am kinda confused now as to what is going on , but the common factor is I am getting the image file from emule so I have to assume its just a bad image.

Does anyone have this file laying around and know they have a known working copy? Anyone willing to FTP it to me or use some other method? PM me if you can, I would appreciate it!

Hi,

I'm in serious need of a clean Toshiba SD-H400 image, correctly backed up with the -l 20 option. The only image I've found so far is missing the menus after completing the delete all and restart. Any assistance anyone could give me would be most appreciated.

I bought a Series 2 Tvo form somebody, and its stuck on "Welcome powering up". After some searching, and checking, it appears to be a software problem. Verified good power to HD, and HD spins when Tivo is powered up. Is there anywhere I can get the original software and restore the drive? I'm also still a little confused what to use to mount the tivo drive in order to perform the restore, or even read the drive at all.

Many software images are on the eD2K network. Get the emule client at www.emule-project.net. A distro of mfstools 2 is essential for restoring the image. I suggest using the PTVupgrade LBA-48 ver 4.01 free cd. Hinsdale's How To will give you the information you need.

It DOES help if you let people know which model you have.

I know Series 1 files are harder to get, but I was hoping someone had
the slice files for software version 3.1.0c2. I have used the Instantcake
disc and I keep getting "Serious Error has occured" green screen. I put
my drive with version 2.52 back in and it works fine, so I would like to
try and upgrade 2.52 to 3.1.0c2 with the slice files and SleepyISO script.
If anyone has the slice files for software version 3.1.0c2 or know where
I can get them, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks. Later.

captain_video
11-03-2005, 09:20 AM
Fixsub.tcl is the nophone script that's supplied with 2.5Xtreme. If you don't have the readme file for 2.5Xtreme then look in the series 1 support forum in the How To's Only thread and you should find instructions for installing 2.5Xtreme and setting up the fixsub script. Check my tutorial in post #47 for a painless upgrade to 2.5.2 or 3.1. You'll need to upgrade to either 2.5.2 or 3.1 to get locals anyway so the fixsub script no longer comes into play. The nophone hack is included with Superzap's xPlusz utility that's part of the xupgrade program.

Those of you that are looking for backup images can find them by looking here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=46000). Note that the FTP site in question does not host any 2.5Xtreme images but only stock, unhacked Tivo backups.

I have sent the guy a PM asking if he wouldn't mind hosting the 2.5Xtreme images and have offered a few more unhacked images for his site if he's interested. I'll let everyone know what I find out.

captain_video
11-03-2005, 02:18 PM
That depends on what you want to do. You'll need to set up the xPlusz utilities to activate the hacks you want a la carte. You can do this via the phone setup menu or you can do it via serial connection. Serial connection is the only method available for communicating with a S1 DTivo until you install a Turbonet adapter (the drivers can be activated with the xPlusz commands). You'll also need to set up a static IP address by editing the /etc/rc.net file per this post:

Hi,

I tried to use Loki's Mac OS X port of Tiger's mfstools 2.0 to back up an image of my 80 Gig DTiVo 6.2 disk (Philips 708). I used Mac OS 10.3.9 and the ext2fsx control panel.

The original disk mounts the three partions one would expect s4 s7 and s9. The mfstools backup appeared to run sucessfully. However, when I installed the new drive 120 Gig WD and ran mfs restore, the new disk has s4 and s9 as ext format, but s7 is unknown. I can't install any hacks on that partition and the TiVo won't start up with that drive installed.

I've tried running mfstools backup and restore with many different options. Same results. Is my original hard disk somehow corrupt? (It still works in the DTiVo, so I doubt it.) Is there something wrong with the mfstools for the mac? Or could there be something wrong with the new WD hard disk? Any ideas?

Thanks.

6.2 is the prefered software for DirecTiVos. Slices are available on eMule, as well as a minimal image (expands to fill any hard drive).

That may be your best option. Alternatives would include using AlphaWolf's minimal 6.2 system from eMule, or downloading a 3.1.1c or later image and the 6.2 slices from eMule. Then you install 3.1.1c, hack it, load the slices, install the 6.2 version for your hardware, and hack IT.

Frankly, I'm rather tight with a dollar and I have the skills to do that, but I would be tempted to just use instantcake if I was in a hurry.

I wouldn't use it on any system that would be calling home. If you use the minimal image your Samsung will report itself as an RCA. This MIGHT be ignored, or it might trigger a reinstall, or ????

Anyone know of another source for a 6.2 image? Seems that when I redid my server's raid array, I lost my tivo stuff, and it would also appear that emule (perhaps just my copy) doesn't have anything available online right now. Since I'd normally (past 3+ years) get updates from emule, etc, and don't really want to pay ptvupdate, since I like to do things myself, I am now stuck.

I have an extra 40 Gig drive laying around and i am fine with the loss of capacity. I don't have an image to put on it. What do I do?

Sounds like your 40-hr is a different model. You need a TCD540040 image, and even then it might not squeeze onto that individual drive.

You might want to go to ptvupgrade.com and buy an Instant Cake image for the 540 model.

brookman_69

I considered that option. My only reservation is that if the Tivo itself is faulty and I don't want to waste money on it replacing the drive if I have to turn around and replace the unit.

I don't know about an image, but you can pull the drive and upgrade via slices. Or, hookup an external modem to the serial port, but it's been years since I've tried something like that. You'd have to dig far back into the archives for info about external modems.

I'll give it a try. I was reading the tivo.com site that said they didn't support guided setup on broadband until 7.2.

A bit of a fib, perhaps... the ,#401 forced-networking trick definitely works with system 5.3 but I don't recall if that was ever released for the TCD240 models. Anyway check PM and use slices.

 I bought the wrong image for my dvr40 the first time i bought 3.1.1e instead of 6.2 and they didnt care and made me pay again i dont want to give them another 20 thats why i hope someone on here has a r10 image!
 I received a DirecTiVo from DirecTV with 3.1.1e. When I forced a phone call it upgraded to 6.2. Apparently you weren't smart enough to do the same. The fact that you tried to hack the original drive on an R10 with a piece of software that CAN'T hack an R10 reinforces the conclusion that you haven't spent enough time reading.

PTVupgrade sells a lot of software to people too lazy to get it elsewhere; and images to people too careless to properly back up their system. The fact that you will be making your third purchase from them indicates you are their favorite type of customer.

First of all I donít have a phone line so there was no way I could just plug it in and force the call I just moved so I donít know anyone around here so I didnít have a choice, secondly I pulled the drive from my tivo thinking it was a dsr7000 but I had forgotten I swapped that one with my brother... its not that I donít know what imp doing I was using 25xtreme and hacking by hand with a series one way back when, I just havenít been in the game for awhile. Yeah so I should have double checked it was an r10 but stuff happens. I'm not a newbie, I just screwed up and donít want to feed ptvugrade any more on the basis that they were jerks when I grabbed the wrong os version in haste, I have a laptop and was borrowing a desktop so I was trying to hurry, I donít have any drives with fat32 to back it up its not that Iím lazy and yes im trying to get an image, i thought maybe someone would be nice enough to help instead of blindly ridiculing me.

Would you like some cheese with your whine?

I am complete TiVo newbie myself but I know how to read and I know how to use the bloody search function. I learned within 30 minutes of reading DDF and TCF that the only way my R10 could be hacked was to replace the PROM so I decided this wasn't for me. I then looked for some other options and saw posts about DSR7000 bare units for $35 and decided this WAS for me. I spent the next couple of days combing the forums and found not only a virgin image for my DSR7000 but a virgin 6.2 image as well along with all the tools I needed to complete the install and hacks. Hell, my DSR7000 isn't even here yet but I have a hard drive already prepped with 6.2 and space for about 10 hours of recording ready to go when it gets here on Thursday.

The forums are your friend, everything has already been posted at least once. If you think he ridiculed you, you should be examined by an OB/GYN because I think something is bleeding.

Grow up and educate yourself, don't sit here and whine and beg for everything to be handed to you. You are a perfect example of what is wrong with society today.

trying to do killhdinitrd on the 3.1.5 kernel for my DSR7000/6.2. I don't have any PC with FAT32 system. 9Have one with FAT though). I read that you can try to mount USB key by trying to mount it as \dev\sda1\ for some reason the boot cd I have does not seem to do this...

I can see the SDA1 in the dev though - not sure if I am doing anything else wrong...

If you can point to a boots CD image with SCSI support great... if you already have a killhdinitrd'd kernel for 3.1.5 and are kind enough to share it that'll be great too...

Thanks.

You have several options: If you have a 'virgin' 3.1.5 kernel, copy it to partition 9 on the TiVo drive and killhdinitrd it there. Or dd it to the active boot partition AFTER backing up the original kernel and killhdinitrd it in place.

If you lack a 3.1.5 kernel, consider purchasing the PTVupgrade LBA-48 enhanced cd for $5. It has killhdinitrd kernels on it.

Lastly, this site (ftp://tivok:tivokernel@ftp.tivosupplies.com/tivo_kernels/s2_kernels/) had kernels as of 3-11-06.

I just acquired a 2nd tivo (TCD240040). The only image I have for this model reports "premature end of image data" when restoring it. I would like to get an image that works, run some tests on the unit and then get the lifetime sub on it before it becomes unavailable in less than 2 hours. If you're able to help me, I can set up an FTP server for the transfer. I sure would appreciate it.

TIA

If you need it that fast, just get the lifetime sub on your serial number and worry about fixing a hobbling hardware later. Most everything in the TCD240 can be fixed or replaced as long as the motherboard is still good.

Also if you're in a hurry, not to sound like a commercial or anything, for some buckazoids you can download an Instant Cake CD image direct from PTVupgrade.com (make sure you pick the right model).

I'm guessing your 370 hour image isn't taking on the 40-hour 40GB hard drive. (Isn't there a 'shrink MFS' option on mfsbackup?? )

7.2.2 for a 240? Since that's the current image, I think most folks are just putting something working on the HDD and letting the Tivo update itself. Try looking for 7.2_slices_all_models.rar, and then let it update to 7.2.2.

If you're really good, try and capture the slices yourself.

Try looking for 7.2_slices_all_models.rar, and then let it update to 7.2.2.I happened to see this one on emule today: ed2k://|file|minimal-7.2.2-oth.01-2-140.mfs|88704148|D3EBB179DD17E04E11CA2FDB9353F8CF|/|h=MWOIQQZYWW5K4DZ6IFCXCRWKSRZ7JOXR|/

The 140 version is also the right one for 240 hardware.

This is a minimal image, meaning it will fit on any size drive > 1GB, and must be expanded (-x) when restored. It's using one partition pair, so it can be expanded twice; useful if you upgrade drives again later.

The bootpage has the console= and dsscon= kernel options set. You may want to clear these with bootpage if you plan to drive a cable box via serial.

You should be able to follow the Weaknees "Restore from Backup to one drive" instructions.

There's no need to run the sd-h400_unlock utility with this image, so skip that step if it is in their instructions. The capacity lock is already removed in this image.

plus, wouldn't dtv overwrite it anyway and make me install/download 6.2 standard?

You can hop on your eMule and ride around. Probably the best chance you've got is to get a 4.0.1b image, mfsadd the extra hard drive space, boot it up in the tivo, and then allow the tivo to update itself to the most recent system software.

For example
ed2k://|file|Tivo_40g-s2-4.0.1b.rar|216643231|874871D656DE6F910219368923E04FD9|/

I would take the 7.2.2 image instead: link (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?p=254562#post254562). This is especially important if you have a drive larger than 137GB, sinced 4.x didn't have an lba48 aware kernel. It will still need to take an upgrade to get to 7.2.2b.
