View Full Version : Corrupted Image?

Following installation of a new 80 gb HD in a Hughes HDVR2, the menu screens seem to be corrupted. They alternately flash green then blue and the tivo icon at the top right disappears and reappears. The text appears normally and it doesn't appear to affect functionality. But it is EXTREMELY difficult and annoying to look at.
I also received the error #51 and understand that I must clear and delete everything to remove the error msg. I did that, but it did not affect the menu issue. I reformatted the HD w/ FAT32 partition, just to slick the drive, then reinstalled the image. That too was unsuccessful in correcting the menus.
Is it possible that the image is corrupted?
Is it possible I used a command incorrectly?
The following is the command list that I used from Hinsdale's :
mkdir /mnt/dos
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
mfsrestore -s 127 -bzpi /mnt/dos/hdvr2_31.bkz /dev/hdc
umount -f -a -r
Any ideas?

We need more information...
-Where did you get the image from?
-Did you modify it in any way? (such as a monte)
My guess would be its either an incompatable image or something funky's going on with the monte. Or it might just be currupt...
EDIT- oops I didnt know about that (read below!)

Your assumption is correct. It is corrupt. Whoever made the image forgot to use the "-f 9999" flag and thus the backgrounds are corrupt. You basically have two options: have a seizure from looking at the background or find a new image. If you look on this forum, you will find a link to a 3.1.1b image that does work. Sorry to break the news to you, but thats just the way it is.

mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/dos
mfsrestore -s 127 -bzpi /mnt/dos/hdvr2_31.bkz /dev/hdc
umount -f -a -r
You also need the -x switch to expand your image when you get a good one.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly does the f 9999 flag do to the image?

Here's a list of commands (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showpost.php?p=125707&postcount=10). It means "Backup with all FSIDs below 9999".

sorry if this is a flame but david, you are truly an *****. Ive spent lots of time in these forums looking for information and doing LOTS of reading and i always hear YOU complaining about stuff like a senial old man. You say how the noobs ruin the forums and drive dev's away when the truth is, your more annoying than anyone. Take it from me, someone who is new to these forums, and read much of the material, only to see your constant b*tch*ng, which just wastes time for people who are hear to learn about their tivo. You waste time and bandwidth with your posts. This post is also a waste of time and bandwidth thanks to you.

Yes it is. Why did you spend so much time whining when you could have just taken my advice and found the answer?

Wrong, the thread was moved after I posted.
"DickBite"? Grow up. And while you're at it, try finding a hobby you're actually good at, because this ain't it.

Wrong, there is no redirect. They don't last forever and they're not required.
Of course, if you were a real mod instead of a 3000 post, DSS stealing, drug abusing wannabe, you would know that. :D
