Im looking to upgrade my grandparents dsr6000(never been hacked, new 120 gig drive on the way). For some reason they still have a p3 card. Directtv never sent them a new one, and there running 2.5.2.

Correct me if Im wrong, but I cant use the extreme3.1, or tivolater3.1 upgrade because of the p3 card, and I cant use the extreme2.5.2 upgrade because there already at 2.5.2 . So the only way to hack it would be to download the 25extreme image and load that to the new drive, then upgrade to 2.5.2.

If thats the only way, where I can I download the extreme image, most of the links Ive seen are down.

Call DTV and they will send you a new card. Then you can use whichever upgrade methods you like.

So then once I get the p4 card, I can just backup the original 2.5.2 drive, load the image onto the new 120 gig drive. Test it out in the tivo. Then put the drive back in the pc and run the extreme3.1 upgrade on it, even if the drive was never hacked before.

I read through the entire extreme upgrade post. One question I still have, they order pay per view every once in a while(and want to order with the remote), and want to use the callerid feature, so they want the phone line plugged in. There going to be running 3.1 which is probally the last series 1 upgrade(so they shouldnt have to worry about a update being snuck in). They also pay for there service. So is there any reason to mess around with the nophone option, or fixsub. Should I worry about the tivo calling out. Will using nophone mess with ppv or callerid.

It sounds like there's no reason to install Xtreme or any other hacks on your grandparent's DSR6000 if all they want is the latest OS version. Since they plan on ording PPVs via the remote then I'd do as malfunct suggested and order a new card from DTV for $20. When you swap out the card go ahead and force a daily call and it should download the 3.1 update. It may take a few tries to get it and you may not get the absolute latest OS version but it should at least get the basic 3.1 update. Eventually it will get the 3.1b update on its own.

Sorry , I must of not of been clear enough. They do want the other hacks, tivoweb, callerid, extraction. I was just wandering if there was any reason to do the nophone hack since they pay for there service and since there probaly wont be any other directivo series 1 upgrades. Im also under the impression that if you do the nophone hack or fixsub that it would mess with ordering ppv via the remote and callerid since they both use the phone line.
