Can you see other files on the CD? 1) using the computer you burned the .iso on. 2) using the computer you are trying to boot.
Are you burning the CD and trying to boot from the same drive? Some old CD ROM drives have a hard time reading cd-r discs. Again, can you read a disk on the computer you are trying to boot that was burned from where you are trying to make the .iso
Even though your BIOS has the option to boot from CD it might not work. Have you tried the CD in a different computer? Do you know someone who knows that they have a computer than can boot from CD?

When you burn the ISO with roxio do you tell it to finalize the disk? The old machine may not be able to read cd's that are still "open".

I doubt that, seems to be a machine issue.
Can the old win95 machine read any burned cds? Some older cd drives were unable to "see" the data on a cdr due to reflectivity issues and such.

Its not that the computer is too old, its that the cd drive is too old. What I would do in your situation is grab the fat32 drive from the win95 machine, put it in the del optiplex with the good cd reader as primary master. Make sure the cd rom is primary slave and put the tivo drive on the secondary master. Since you are booting from the cd the OS on the primary master drive is irrelavant, the only requirment being that the first partition is fat32.

i tried the boot disk in win95 mach. and it will open it up, so i tried to restart the machine with the cd in the drive , it starts up and just sits there with a flashing cursor. is this what it should to without my other drive being hooked up?

You said that on the cd that you burnt you only see 2 files? are there any directories there? Its sounding a bit like you have a corrupt iso that you are starting out with that is part of your problem.
It does sound like you are booting from the cd correctly so now you just need to figure out why you don't have the complete image on that disk. Sometimes these things are painful but you are doing a pretty good job troubleshooting the issues so far.

Whats the size of the original .iso image? I am downloading a good one now so I can compare sizes and see if you had a complete .iso. Also, it wasn't clear, but did you break open the iso and try to burn the files? Or did you burn the iso to the disk as an image?
There should be a few files and couple of directories in the root of the cd if its a correct burn.

The size of the .iso file that I downloaded is 21,692,416. When you are done the total size of all files on the cd should add up to a number very close if not identicle to this. Thats in kilobytes I'm fairly certain if you were wondering.

Oh, you are doing 2.5extreme, heh I was thinking it was tivoscripts_1_02. I don't know what size it is or how its supposed to behave or how you are supposed to connect things up for that. Sorry :(
It still sort of sounds like your image was corrupt but that you are burning it correctly.

quick question... when burning using Nero, did you select "burn image" from the "Recorder" menu ?
just double checking, cuz if you use the "CD-ROM (ISO)" pre-selected deal that pops-up... it wont work.
