View Full Version : /var Options And Alternatives

I recently had to re-install some hacks on my S1 3.01b DTivo with CacheCard and 2 120GB dives after Tivo rebuilt /var due to the logs being to large. I got the impression, from various posts in this forum, that if the Tivo phones home you do not have to worry about the logs. I was wrong. :(

Should I use logsnull on a Tivo at 3.01b that phones home? If not what about commenting out the log lines as suggested here (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11801&highlight=logsnull). Has anyone just commented them out in 3.01b with no ill effects?

I have also seen it suggested here and at alt.org to make another partition using pdisk, which I finally found compiled to use on a Tivo, Here (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tivoutils/pdisk-s1.gz?download). I have created a new partition and tried to format it using mke2fs, but I cannot make Tivo mount the mount the new partition. I know Iím doing something wrong, but I just donít know what. I have been searching, but the only link I can find which purports to explain the usage of pdisk and mke2fs in relation to the Tivo no longer works. Any help, examples or links are appreciated.
