Hughes Network Systems DIRECTV®/TiVo™ Receiver--Up to 35 Hours

Brand/Model: HNS SDDVR40

I have Directv and want to be able to extract to Mac or PC from tivo.

Is this unit "good" for it or should I buy something else?
Would a stand alone be better?

I do have a basic understanding of linux and what is involved in the Hacks, however I'm unsure what Unit to buy as I have seen some info that Dtvio's can give you up to the tivo Gods and remove your hacks.

Also, any info on what else to buy and where to buy it from. IE ethernet card etc.

I have a mixed network 100t/11mb wifi. I'll run the ethernet cable if it gives me 100mb extraction if not wifi it is.

Thanks,

Yes or no answers, links, opinions, welcome.

Yes.

Best thing about them is they are 99 bucks at local circuitcity or bestbuy.

They might be out of stock but probably have the philips or rca units at same price. They are all acceptable subsitiutes.

Well, I got one. Downloaded "sleeper's ISO" ver. 1.0.2 and ran it. It seemed to go OK, but did not seem to get caller ID to Work. Anyone have a clue why?

I can mount the new TIVO drive's linux partitions in Mac OS X with some help from EXT2 Filesystem for Mac OS X. Check it out at SourceForge.

Don't have networking device yet to test that, but the sleeper iso asked for IP address's and such. I use DHCP will this work if I leave the ?'s it asks blank i.e. no IP address brodcast adress,or is there something else I need to do?

Anyone else have this ditectivo unit and get caller ID to work with Sleeper's ISO?

If so, what ver. was it?

If anyone could point me to what is involved in getting the caller ID to work, as far as command line# maybe I can mount the drive and use PICO to find what went wrong and learn something along the way.

Thanks,

Darwin

DHCP is generally a bad idea. Unless you setup a filter at firewall to deny it from calling home. Do a static and dont' assign default gatway. At least not til you figure out how to block it from calling home. There are many ways, just do search.

I'm not sure if this was the problem, but Sleeper's iso does not install Caller ID. You will have to install it yourself.
