i would like to extract shows from my dtivo to a media server. i can extract 1 show at a time from tystudio & tivo web. i can not find the shows using the ftp program. does anyone know, what would be the best way to schedule multiple extractions by date from a dtivo to a media server.
thanks,
panther

Use mfs_ftp to find the shows. Ftp in on port 3105 (standard configuration), cd to ty and ls will get you the list. From there you can process the list any way your ftp client or script will allow.

What version of Tivo software and what version of mfs_ftp are you running?

Type in "ps x" at the bash prompt (no quotes) to get a list of currently running applications. If mfs_ftp is not running then chances are it wasn't set up to run in your rc.sysinit.author file at bootup. You can start it manually by navigating to the mfs_ftp directory and typing "./mfs_ftp" at bash to get it up and running.

tivoftpd only has access to files in the ext2 partitions. All video is in the mfs partitions and in order to pull files from there you must run the mfs_ftp daemon which is built to understand that. You will still need to run tivoftpd for normal file transfers because mfs_ftp ONLY gets video files from the mfs parition. (actually I think there are other things in there that it has access to but in general its for extracting video)

This is one reason that selling the hacks on ebay is ruining the hobby. People get the hacks as a "product" and of course the person selling won't support it so they treat other hobbiests as tech support without ever really wanting to learn how things work or how to deal with things on thier own.
I may just be in a bad mood today but if you want a "tivo" that you can save video on dvd or hard drive with no protections get a media center pc. You pay more but then again you get what you pay for. If you want to mess with hacking a tivo you need to realize you have a LOT to learn and that there isn't an army of paid servants to answer your every question.

Amen. This stuff doesn't even belong in the newbie forum. It's sub-noob stuff.
Errr... Panther, who sold you this TiVo and did they promise support via this forum... would be very interesting to know.

The problem here is, you paid someone else to do the 'work' of hacking your box instead of doing it yourself. If you had done it yourself, you would understand the process much more. You would at least have a 'starting point' for asking questions.
Right now, you're below 'noob' status in a lot of people's book. If you had done it yourself, had problems, THEN come here and asked questions, your questions would have carried a lot more weight.
The problem is somewhat with you, but more with the guy who you bought this from. He took the work of others and made money off of you. Lots of those 'others' are here in this forum, the ones who WROTE the stuff that guy used to sell you that hacked Tivo.
Can you understand why they would resent someone then coming here and asking questions, having bought something that wasn't supposed to be sold in the first place?
[edit] And no, not "everyone else" is enjoying the benefits. Those that take the time and effort to hack their Tivos and get it right, by doing their research first, understanding the process... THOSE are the people who get the benefits of a hacked Tivo. There are lots of unhacked Tivos out there. Lots.

Did you not know there were risks to trying something like that?
Did you use your original Tivo hard drive, or did you take the advice of every guide I've ever seen written on hacking Tivos ... use a 2nd drive?
This is not for everyone. Those who put in the effort get the rewards, and the community will support them.
Those that pay others to do their work for them.... should expect support from the person whom they paid.

Now that you know the reasons that you have pissed people off, I suggest that you do the following:
a) Go to the image begging thread and get an ORIGINAL unhacked image for your unit. TEST the unit after you restore the image,. Clear and Delete everything after restore.
b) Find the necessary tools to hack your tivo in 15 minutes. They are out there, I should know.
c) Search and read before posting for help.
d) Make sure you fill out the "How to report a problem" questionaire and follow the instructions.
e) Kiss David Bought's ass. Mine has been kissed enough and he needs it more than me.

 Now that is the way to make new friends.
Perhaps you'd care to rephrase that comment or to edit that post before more can read it?
For the record, I don't think you are having Newbie problems. I think you are having consumer problems.
