I just noticed my DVR40 says its made by RCA. I thought it was made by Hughes seeing as the guts are virtually identical to the HDVR2.

Anyone know anything about this. Is it made by Hughes for RCA?

I know it is not exactly the same but it is virtually identical except for the RID portion of the board.

You are correct. I think there are reports of people running 3.1.1 on rid and non rid units.

RCA DVR39 = Hughes HDVR2 = Philips DSR-7000 = Non RID
RCA DVR40 = Hughes SD-DVR-40 = Philips DSR-704 = RID

They are all merely rebrands of one another, and only the face plates look different from brand to brand. The model numbers might vary slightly on the hughes and philips RID models, but they only vary in hard disk size, nothing else. (e.g, 80 gig philips RID unit is DSR-708)

So do you know if one makes the other? (RCA make Hughes or vice versa)
