I was installing a Tivo Cachecard to my Sony T60 and messed up my XPlusz installation in the process which caused me to have to do some editing of the RC.SYSINIT file. Now my Tivo will not boot up. I did make a copy of the original RC.SYSINIT file in my /var/hack directory
I have a Kazymyr Boot CD and tried to mount my tivo disks from my windoz pc but it did not work. I had my Tivo A drive installed as a secondary IDE Master . This is what I entered when I tried to mount the drive
mount /dev/hdc4 /mnt
I also tried this
mount /dev/hdc7 /mnt
What am I doing wrong?
Do I have the wrong boot CD?
Once I find a way to get past this problem, what is next?
Is there anyone that can get me back on track?
Thanks

Did you make the rc.sysinit file executable after performing the edit? If you edited the file on your PC did you save the file in Unix format before restoring it to your DTivo? Failing to do either will prevent your DTivo from booting.

Not a Linux expert, but don't you have to mount the disks to a unique directory?
eg
mkdir /mnt/tivo
mount /dev/hdc4 /mnt/tivo

I edited tbe file using JOE through the serial port with Tera Term Pro and I am sure that I forgot to make it executable. So the answer to your question is NO I did not edit the RC.SYSINIT file on my own PC, I did the edit on the TIVO itself using JOE.
Is there a way to recover and save the recordings?

If you edited the file on your Tivo using joe then it was already executable. The permissions wouldn't have changed if you edited it in vitro. There's a method of extracting the videos from the hard drive by installing the Tivo drive in your PC and performing the extraction there. Check the extraction forum for the sticky thread that discusses this topic.
