Thanks to some of the guys here, I was able to monte my 40hr SD-DVR40 tivo.bak to one of my 120gb hd.

Okay... here is what I did to test a few things...

I goofed around with this last night (being a newbie) and I first backup up my 40hr gb to a spare 120gb, applied sleeper iso, monte, tested it in my tivo, it said "35 hrs", I expaned it, tested again and it now said "105 hrs"!!!

GREAT!!

Now here is my question, being a newbie and not knowing better/more about my tivo capabilities, earlier this week I added 120gb to my 40hr tivo, making it a 140 hr tivo. Problem is now that I know about monte, sleeper iso and tytools and all, I want to monte mine. I have about 10 shows I haven't watched yet and want to save, but that is one my A/B drives. Where as, my second "spare" 120gb I applied the monte sleeper iso.

Can I monte my A/B drive without losing recordings?

I read that some have problems viewing after monte is applied.

I know that the previously recorded programs, will not be unscrambled... that's fine.

Worst case is I can start from scratch on my A/B 146 hr tivo, apply my monte and start over again (losing recordings, but is there a way around that)

Also, question about adding a "B" drive to my monte system.

Once it is monted, lets say I monte my 120gb, expand, then I want to add my 40hr as a "B" drive to make it a 140 monted tivo, do I use the same mfsadd command to the 40hr tivo alone? Will that mess up my monte on "A"?

Just curious!!

As to trying to use the DD comand and slow process, I can't copy my current "A" drive since it is already "marrried" to my new "120gb", I have to backup both together, which means I'd need to get a new 160gb hd to save my recordings, then apply the monte.

Any ideas anyone???

Sorry for the long post! I hope you can gather what I'm trying to accomplish and what I attempted to do already!

Thanks!!

I am too new for you to take this at 100% face value, but I know i have read monte enables the unscramble hack.... this will keep you from watching old scrambled programs without disabling the hack....

Being too green I cant provide you with one of the nice links to the topic.... but I know i have read about somebody with the problem and they were provided with a hacking solution they could do when they wanted to watch the scrambled programs... try some digging... if I come across it again I will post the link

Your recordings don't work because they were originally made with scrambling turned on. Sleeper's tivoscript disables scrambling with the kmem utility as indicated in alm450's post. If I understand it correctly if you disable the kmem utility as alm450 suggested you can then patch the tivoapp file using the noscramble2 patch and both scrambled recordings made on that Tivo and future unscrambled recordings will also play back. Check Alphawolf's sticky thread in the extraction forum for clarification as I have not done this myself (I have installed the noscramble2 patch but not with any existing recordings on the drive so I can't verify that this works). If you plan on extracting any videos you will need to disable scrambling prior to extracting them. BTW, you should update the tytools files installed by Sleeper's tivoscript because the ones he installs are way out of date. Check jdiner's TyTools thread in the extraction forum for the latest versions.

Thanks,

I came across and read that one yesterday by the way, but wasn't sure if that would apply to my SD-DVR40.

I read a few more posts from Alphawolf, but still kinda confused which is the right method to proceed with. Like you, I'm very NEW to this tivo scene, but want to learn fast. I figured out how to upgrade and monte my HD, in a few hours, but that's nothing compared to extraction/ttp/telnet/kerm...whatever that is. I recorded a TON of stuff this weekend and haven't gotten around to watch them yet. DAMN I love tivo!!!!! Anyways...I just want to know exactly and be sure what to do before I go ahead and mess with my recordings I haven't watched yet. The last thing I want to do is not being able to watch my scrambled/unscrambled after applying my monte hack and all to it.

I guess you learn by mistakes...but this time, I'm asking anyone who's done this before and or has a guide.... "could you grab this baby's hand and walk me through it?"

Worst case,...... I'll have to sit home one weekend...watch em' all... then start from scratch!
40hr > 140hr> then monte w/hacks... and away we go... right??

Thanks guys!!

OOOHHH! Thanks for the link!

That'll help out! I think I'll first take out my a/b drives 140hr, put in another 120gb "A" drive expand to 105... record a few shows, then MONTE it and apply the script and see if what happens! Just don't want to lose my shows just yet!

I guess its a good lead....

thanks for the tip... I appreciate it!!!
