Hi all-
Pretty new - got my HDVR2 monte'd. Working on the ethernet. Have the serial port going. I see no mention anywhere of people editing files on the tivo itself vs mounting the hard drive on a different box. Is there a reason for this? There is no vi anywhere on my image either - hmmmm. Seems like a conspiracy - what's the story?

Also, I bought a Linksys USB200M. It seems like the ethernet cable falls out of the socket if you even look at it wrong. Anyone else have this experience or any tips on this small but frustrating device?

Thanks

You can download install vi on your tivo. Do a google search for tivoutils. They will have all the files you want.

To answer your second question, search this message board for usb200m fragile and you will see that adapter is a POS.

Any idea on where to find one?
I guess I could spend a weekend and figure out how to cross compile one.

I was able to google this in 5 minutes

ftp://ftp.alt.org/pub/tivo/dtype/

I think the 'elvis' file is actually a VI-like editor for Tivo
