I've been reading this forum for going on a month now learning lots of stuff that I can do to my Tivo that I recently purchased. However, I couldn't find too much about Comercial Skipping. I'm sure this has to of come up before. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? Or is it just not possible?

Many thanks for everyone's time.

WORKS GREAT!! press the advance button 3 or 4 times and your back to watching your program. no more fastforward or rewind!

[url]WORKS GREAT!!

That's actually just a 30 second skip button. It's a whole lot better than fast forward but it's not an automated commercial skip ala ReplayTV. You still have to pick up the remote and clickety-click to make it work.

There is no fully automatic commercial skip in Tivo. 30 sec skip is the closest thing we have (so far ...). There's also chunkedit.tcl. You can edit recordings so that you eliminate commercials manually. It's pretty useful for recordings that stay on the Tivo long-term because it saves space but it's tedious to use. (One user posted that it takes about 1 hour to edit a 1 hour recording.) I haven't gotten it working myself so I can't really say.

Yea - I think what I was looking for was something like the ReplayTV that I've read about.

What I envision myself doing, is setting up my Tivo near where the cable feads to the other TVs in my house and using an RF modulator to broadcast it to channel three throughout the house.

This is mainly cause my wife doesn't want to come downstairs to watch the Tivo on the big screen most of the time. So if I could come down stairs and start the show we wanted to watch, and watch it up stairs, and it would skip the commercials, then that would be great.

And yes this is mostly cause I'm kind of cheap and don't want to buy another Tivo, and pay the monthly subscription fee, to get a Tivo upstairs.

I guess right now I'm just trying to explore my options, that's all =).

Is there anyway to automate the remote key presses to enable the 30 second skip in rc.sysinit.author?

Never mind. I found SendKey. Just need to figure out all of the key codes and where to place the command for startup.

The tivo already outputs on channels 3/4 so there is no need for the modulator. You will need an amp if you split the signal. I amp my signal and pump it into an 8 port splitter. I also use a remote control extender to control the Tivo from another room.
