OK I have MPEG2-VCR and my problem is I have a 1hour 45min mpeg made from a ty file (of course) and when I edit it the sound is offsync with the picture. Is there a better editing tool software out there for Tivo mpeg? If there is will it screw everything up if I use editstudio to remove the channel ID from the corner of the movie? Why is it again that mpegs from a tivo are so damn hard to edit?

thanks

I'm not sure about mpgs from a ty file but I find the gopeditor in tytools does a fairly good job when I author DVDs from ty files. It only does cuts (no joins, transitions, filters, etc) but that's 90% of what people want.

Depends on the source. If it is SA-Tivo you'll have better luck that with DTivo.

Your problems stem from the video stream that DTV sends you. Before the MPEG-2 spec was finished, DTV was already encoding their stream with something that is very similar. RESULT: DTV streams are *not* MPEG-2 spec. There is a pretty good explanation (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32083&page=5&pp=15) of the problems in the TYTOOL9r8 thread starting at post #74.
I don't know if there is an answer to your problem because of this. With the SA TiVo there are a lot fewer problems. Have you tried TyStudio?

That was going to be my next question TyStudio doesn't work on series 2 tivo so it wont work on my Dtivo. Is there a better extract tool than tytools? I keep reading about it has bugs with extracting and thought maybe that might me the problem.
