Can I copy xbox games on a dvd/r and play with unmodded xbox? Or do i have to download a backedup game from bit torrent and burn to dvd to play it. If this would work could i also play it on xbox live?

If you dont have a modded xbox you cant play any backed up xbox games. You can never play on xbox live with a backed up game.

softmod will let you play some off the HDD. not everyone will work but i would not recommend that casue if you loose power to your xbox, that will be the end of it (for the avr user)

I have no idea where these people get their information. There is a nomod exploit for the Xbox. It uses a buffer overflow problem in games such as 007 etc. Check out some of the xbox website for help on how to do it. Once you install the exploit you get most of the functionality of a modchip.

Btw, the "nomod" solution he is talking about is the same thing as what moddedoutxbox was talking about. It's called a softmod.
Basically you use 007, Mechassault, or splintercell to do a gamesave buffer overrun to get evox to launch and then you do the softmod by using Phoenix bios loader and either an audio hack or font hack to make the xbox run phoenix to do a software insert of a modified bios to load evox.
but to re-interate a point:
YOU CAN NOT PLAY A BURNT GAME WITHOUT A MODIFIED BIOS LOADED ON THE XBOX
The inclusion of the macrovision software checks in the retail xbox bios prevents this.
