newbe tivo to pc ?

I have a hdvr2 running 4.0.1b with a wireless usb hooked up. I have tytool9 and am trying to get my recordings on my laptop I have hooked into the wireless network with no success. I have done lots of reading and am looking for a 'how to' on connecting to my tivo via my laptop.

I received the tivo already modified, I have done no hacking yet. I have not been able to connect to the tivo through my laptop yet.

if the tivo has a NIC have you tried just telnet-ing into it?

I am trying to. Which program is the best to use to telnet to the tivo? I keep getting a 'failed to connect' using tytool9 when I enter the tivo's IP.
