I have gotten GREAT guidance so far. I now am able to extract video files to my pc and have a few files downloaded. I have searched all over the Video Extraction thread, and can find only comments on enhancement of people already doing this. Is there a specific referral to a thread someone can give me to help? I do not know whether or not the files are encrypted, so I also need help to decipher how I can get the file reconfigured from XXX.ty to MPEG2 if encrypted, and then if not encrypted as I have shows on the Tivo before and after I installed NOENCRYPT2. I have already tried a 'search' and cannot find the correct place. Any help to a direct referral to a thread that discusses this? Thank you, thank you, thank you.

If they are encryted then there's nothing you can do about that.
For non-encrytpted shows, you dont need to convert them if all you want to do is play them in WMP. See TyShow thread in Extraction.

I want to download off the Tivo, and store the files on DVD, to be played in my regular DVD player. Then I can erase them from the Tivo, so I can record other shows. For the shows recorded before I disbled the encryption, I suppose I can just make VHS out of them. But for shows I have recorded after I disabled the encryption, I would prefer to make DVDs. I have been unable to find a thread to help a Newbie to do this. Most of the information seems to be for manipulating the files once one has already figured out how to manage with the DVDs. I certainly will be interested in following those threads, once I get the basics started. I tried TyShow, but I could not get it going either.

I tried TyShow, Sanderton. This time it seems to work perfectly. Now at least I can off load the shows to the computer. Maybe I can just burn the files to DVD as data files, and keep them there to avoid filling up my computer hard drive. But if you can get me to a thread to figure out how to get the DVDs to play in my regular player, that would be tremendous.

Download TyTool and (whisper it) read the docs! The DVD and Menu one is the place to start.
