Hey all,

Curious to see if people have tried/succeeded in having their TIVO recognize an 802.11g ethernet adapter. Standalones already have network drivers pre-loaded for TIVO, and it doesn't seem as if too many people are messing with them. HDVRs have been enjoying 54mps devices for quite some time (with certain issues apparently), so I'm just curious to see what kind of activity is out there for 802.11g drivers on standalones.

Anyone messing with this?

have you gotten any advice about this? I'm getting pretty slow transfers from my tivo, ~400K. I think 802.11G would help.

I haven't heard of 802.11G working on HDVR2s. The problem is that the cards need drivers, even the SA2 with 4.x software won't support them.

If you get a cross compiler working, you can try http://prism54.org - this driver should (eventually?) support the Linksys WUSB54G, Medion MD40900, and the Netgear WG121. Few people have reported them working, I doubt anyone has made them work on a TIVO yet.

There has been some recent activity about 802.11g support, both from Tivo and from DDB. Apparently Tivo will be releasing 802.11g support sometime within the next year to help with the transfer speeds for the TiVoToGo update.

If you can't wait that long, then head over to this thread (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38167) for the new backport of the USB drivers, which includes a new 802.11g driver for the Prism chipset (called prism2_usb.o). You'll have to read the thread to see what adapters are supported by the new module, but it includes several 802.11g compatible adapters such as the netgear WG121.

It has been reported as being unstable, and I haven't tried it *yet*, so YMMV

I'm not sure if this has already been posted...

It's off TCF, but apparently there are several 802.11g adapters (unofficially) supported in 7.1x already:

here's a thread listing a few adapters that have worked:

the info is a little sketchy...

In the thread in that second link, TivoBill just made an appearance with a little teaser...

We have not announced any support for 802.11g adapters at this time. There are no Linksys "g" adapters on our proposed list that we will be publishing in the next couple of weeks since they were found to be unreliable in our testing. We do not recommend buying any 802.11g adapters at this point until we publish the updated list with our recommendations.

I saw at least one person with a success with a netgear adapter there too...

I guess I'll wait for Bill... :sigh:
