Ok, I have gotten all of my stuff together, but I have just a couple of question before I break open my TIVO. I have bought a 7200rpm 160gb hdd.
1. Has anyone installed that speed and seen an increase in heat?
2. Does sleeper's iso support a hdd that big?
Thanks in advance.

You'll probably see an increase in heat, but it will be neglegable.

Run the utility / set the jumpers to reduce the drive capacity to 137 gigs. Sleeper's TivoScripts won't see or try to use the full capacity of the drive, but others will, causing problems as the drive fills.

I don't know about sleepers ISO, but as far as I know, you can just use an lba48 kernel image and it'll work with a 160 gigger at full capacity.

With all due respect to you, Sleeper, my04accord, and myself, anyone who has to use Sleeper's TiVoScripts to monte a system isn't ready to switch kernels yet. ;) There's a scientific principle at work here in which the likelyhood of something going wrong increases as the third power of the complexity, the square of the number of people involved, and decreases as the square of the experience of the least competent operator.

Understood and you are most likely right. Is it possble thoug. Could I use that new kernel though, if I tried that is? Has anyone ever tried it before.

A number of people have done it (I'm not one of them). If memory serves me, AlphaWolf was one who compiled a new LBA48 kernel for Series 2. There are several obstacles I believe. Sleeper's TiVoScripts doesn't have LBA48 support, so you can't use it to Monte a drive larger than 137 Gig. And you have to have a Monte'd system to use the LBA48 kernel. Conclusion - you have to be able to do the Monte manually. Lastly, if your system takes an update or anything happens which substitutes a kernel WITHOUT LBA48 support, your MFS file system is trashed.
Again, it's a matter of learning your way around Linux and the TiVo software- which in my case is a work in progress.

chrsturbo also released the LBA48 kernel for S2's using 4.0
Works flawlesly for myself

Run the utility / set the jumpers to reduce the drive capacity to 137 gigs.
I believe the capacity-limiting jumpers will reduce the available drive size to far less than 137GB. You shouldn't have to set the jumpers to anything other than master or slave. The standard Tivo kernel (i.e. non-LBA48) will only recognize the drive as 137GB anyway.

The problem occurs if you use Sleeper's Knoppix-Lite 3.30 cd, or other cds, which do support LBS48 to set up your drive. You're right -the TiVo recogizes the full capacity of the drive, but can't address the portion beyond 137 Gig. This results in serious problems. There have been multiple reports of people installing a 160 Gig drive using a utility supporting LBA48, NOT installing a LBA48 kernel on the drive, and having the TiVo recognise the full capacity of the drive. This is followed by disappearing recordings, unplayable recordingds, etc.
