I bought a 120GB harddrive off of Ebay about 2 months ago for my HDVR2. The seller said that all the hacks were loaded on it. Well, when I installed the harddrive I could never get monte or serial bash to work and I was planning on playing with it more when I had some time. That never happened, so I've just been happy with the extra recording capacity for the last 2 months...

Well, yesterday our power went out and when my HDVR2 rebooted it stuck on the "Almost there, just a few more seconds please" screen. I tried rebooting, cleaning the white power cable, etc. and nothing has worked.

So tonight I put my original 40GB harddrive back into the HDVR2 and it boots right up no problem.

What do you think my problem may be? I hate to think that I am going to lose 2 months worth of recorded programs. Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm definitely a newbie but I will try to answer any questions that may help diagnose this problem. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If you've been following any of the current threads I think you'll find that this forum does not provide support for any pre-hacked drives or Tivos sold on ebay. If you have problems with it after the sale you need to go back to the person that sold it to you for support. If you hacked it on your own then we'd gladly offer you help. The drive was sold to you with software distributed without the permission of the developers and copyright holders for that software and they never saw a penny of the profit gained from the sale of your drive.

This is a hacking forum and not a support area for ebay scammers. I know that's not what you want to hear because you're the one holding the short end of the stick. Once people realize they're on their own when they buy pre-hacked drives and Tivos on ebay they may think twice about making such a purchase in the future unless the seller is willing to offer full support after the sale. Your problem may actually be unrelated to the software installed on the drive but since you opened that door you're stuck with no support from this site. My suggestion would be to contact the seller for help or start reading and learn how to fix it on your own.

You have your original hd with a good image. Just hack it yourself, using the 120gb drive you bought. It's not hard to do if you just read a little.

I'm sorry, but I agree with MeatHead.

Supporting someone that purchased a hacked drive just reinforces the sellers.

The sellers are most likely illegally profiting from the hard work of members of this forum.

Thanks guys, and sorry for asking for support on a pre-hacked drive. I understand your point of view and agree. The info that Meathead gave was exactly the push I needed to start moving this recovery in the right direction. I figured that having a good image on my original HD would allow me to work with the 120 GB HD.

The only other question I have before learning about everything I need to do is whether I should pull all of the .ty files off of the 120 GB harddrive before trying to put a "good" image on it. Do I need to archive them somewhere so I can move them back on to the 120 GB after a successful image? If you can't answer this question because it was pre-hacked, just tell me to shutup and go learn things on my own (seriously).

You can extract them to your PC in tmf format using mfs_ftp and a standard FTP program and then transfer them back to the new drive when you've completed the upgrade.

Well you best tell him what else he needs to do.

Make sure if you use my TivoScripts ISO that you remove the kmem hack and install the new noscramble2 hack. Otherwise you will not be able to view your old recordings.
