I have an HDVR2 (it says HDVR3 in sysinfo) with 3.1.1b-02-2-151. I went ahead and cloned my original 40gb drive to 120gb using the dd tool in mfstools. I've been using this drive for about 4months now with no problems. Than I went and got my serial cable from 9thtee and another 120gb drive to play with and used mfstools 2 w/johnny deaths tools to try and get a BASH but after trying about 4 times I started reading again and saw I couldn't use this with the 3.1.1b software. Now I'm back at square one and need to know what I need. Please help, below is what I want to do.

I want to clone my current drive and all the shows on it to my 2nd 120gb drive and hack it to extract the video and use a network connection. Thats about it the video extraction is the most important. I have lots of shows on there saved and future shows I want to save. I just download sleeper's ISO (tivoscripts 1.02) and ran it to take a look at it. Will this work with what I have? Can someone point me in the right direction to do the video extraction and network hookup with my HDVR2 with the 3.1.1b software? BTW, I was unable to find the 3.1.U5 Kernel that I see people say I might need. Also, I've been reading this group for about a total of 20+ hours the last month or so. Thanks!

I am by no means an expert at all on this, but my understanding is that the shows that you already have are not going to be extractable unless you already had the descramble hack installed before you recorded them. I used Sleepers iso 1.02 after I expanded my HD to a 200 gig hd (137g for now) and then I was able to connect a Netgear FA120 USB 2.0 wired ethernet adapter and connect to it on my LAN and use the tools it installs to pull video and burn to DVD. It took me a bit to figure out what I was doing, but now it works just fine for me, only I had to lose my old recordings as nobody seems to have figured out how to descramble already recorded shows.

Oh I forgot to mention in my last post that I have Hughes SD-DVR40 series 2 DIrectTivo unit that I did this on.

mikeycbd,
Where did you find the hack to turn off the encryption of the video. and what tools are you using to extract the video to a pc? Waht format are you able to convert to?

Thanks,
Jay
