I am about ready to "Sleeper" my second Series 2. Is there a good reason to run through the full process with the drive that is in that HDVR2 (currently at 3.1.1c), or should I just do the restore with what was created in January when I did my first unit (3.1.1b)?
Thanks

If you've got version 3.1.1c then you should consider using it over the older version. The differences aren't that much but 3.1.1c does fix the nag message that is displayed about acquiring guide data and it's also supposed to make the menus operate slightly faster but I haven't had a chance to see this for myself yet. The model number for your HDVR2 should also revert back to the correct model with 3.1.1c instead of being displayed as a HDVR3, but only if your 3.1.1c image comes from another HDVR2. If you use a 3.1.1c image from any other model that make and model number will probably be displayed in the system information screen instead.

I'm sorry to steal your thread but I have a question somewhat related. Now, I know it has probably been answered before, but it's just really hard to look for something very generic as tivoscripts and restoring, here's the question:
I downloaded an image from emule and restored it with mfstools, then I went directly to tivoscripts to run the surgery phase but at some point (in surgery or in hacks phase, i don't remember) the scripts just exited to the main menu without finishing. I remembered that had happened before so i just restored the image with mfstools and then did the hole procedure in tivoscripts: backup, then restore, but the script detected the same drive so it run the command "mfsrestore -s 127 -zpi ...", then i did the surgery and the hacks phase, and everything is runing ok, but now I discovered that in system information it reports 39 hours, when my drive is 120GB.
Will it think that the drive is full when it's not?
If it will, what do I have to do to correct this? will I have to take the drive out?
I think the problem was because the command should have been -xzpi, but tivoscripts wouldn't let me run that command, Is there a way to restore the image with the right command in mfstools (mfsrestore -2 127 -xzpi ...) and then only run the surgery and the hacks phase without it going into an error?.
Sorry for the long post, any help would be appreciated.

I think I wasted your time though with an acedemic question. Sorry! I just went and looked to see if the HDVR3 had been replaced with HDVR2 and I noticed that my virgin 2nd unit is sitting at 3.1.1b. I must of remembered it catching up to my "sleepered" unit. (The phone line had been unplugged after the inital setup call)
It bothered me though...were did I see 3.1.1c? It was from the SwSystem directory on the sleepered unit.
echo "mls /SwSystem" |tivosh|grep -i tydb shows:

wierd thing is, i did the same echo command as you. i have the 3.1c slices also BUT, my phone has not dialed in for 5 months. There is no way possible for my system to have called it because i dont even have a phone line in my house. mine is similar to yours except for filesize and im one minute ahead of you on the time of the files. Something is fishy. Did i take a satelite upgrade?

Vertex,
It is possible. I don't see why they would send over 10M on dialup when they could send it over the sat. I can't verify it, but if you say you have not been plugged in then it must be true.

I as someone once said, "I think you should put your beer down and sober up!" Just kidding. I do remember that entire quote though. I still get a chuckle from it!

Just a follow up on this one. If all of those files are listed in mfs/SwSystem, have the 3.1.1c slices already been loaded? They're dated 5/28, and the file size is a little smaller (668). For the HDVR2, the one listed is:
3.1.1c-01-2-151 tyDb 1528795 05/28/04 07:41 668
The others are similarly named.
I hacked my HDVR2 via Sleepers Iso back in early January, and my machine hasn't dialed in since. Up until yesterday, it wasn't on a network either. So, the satellite was it's only connection to the outside world...
I was wanting to upgrade to 3.1.1c, and it'd be great if I already had the slices. I just was a little confused if those were they, and if so, how they got there...
Ben
Well, I went ahead and tried calling the upgrade script. I figured 'what the heck?' That's the reason I have the original 40 GB drive safely on the shelf...
It worked! It was fairly time consuming, between the fact that I'm a newbie and I was doing it all on a MacOS X box... But it booted up the first time, it's working fine, as far as I can tell...
So, I guess they did send the slices out over the satallite.
Ben
