I am getting ready to hack two series 2 tivos that are in my house. on is a 40 hour and the other is a 60 hr. I have read that it is a good i dea not to hack your original drive just so that there is a full back up. My question is this, Can i just keep one of the original drives as a backup? This way I would only have to shell out for 1 drive and not 2. Is there any reason to have both the original drives unhacked?

I know that this is real noob question so dont flame me to bad. If this has been discussed before please point me in the right direction.

If they're both series 2 models of the same type (i.e. standalone vs. DirecTivo) then you can keep one as a backup and hack the other one. I'd keep the 40GB as the backup since the image from the 60GB drive will not fit on the 40GB drive. You can restore the 40GB image to the 60GB drive and expand it to fill the drive.
