Well, this is the newbie question of all newbie questions. I've seen a friend's Tivo in action, and it's awesome. He has a DirecTivo. I want to get a standalone, so I don't have to remain a DTV subscriber to use my Tivo. What version can I get that will give similar functionality that he has. For example, he has the onscreen guide for everything and and can record an entire season of a show without a sub. Can anyone point me in the right direction, or tell me what I'll be losing with a standalone vs a DirecTivo?

From browsing and reading a little bit more, I have to have a Tivo sub to get the guide. Is that correct?

Also, can I watch one show and record another?
