Is it possible to set this up to use without DTV, say for example just cable. I know dtv has the guides and such, but i just want to be able to push a button and record a show, not to program it.

thanks feggy

Nope... the DTivos get their video and audio data directly from the DirectTV stream. They have no analog-to-digital converter to convert your cable signal to a digital MPEG stream. Only the stand-alones will work with a non-DirectTV source.

You know, I was beginning to think that it would be a good thing to no longer see people asking how to disable the camID check on their dtivos to get them to work with hacked cards, but now I see that they are just going to be replaced with even more rediculous questions like these.

wow, someone that has nothing better to do than to troll forum message boards and crap in other peoples thread.

here's the thing-these are PUPLIC boards-no YOURS

your girlfreind must be pretty patient -what sitting around all night waiting for you to get your worthless opinion posted where it wasnt asked for

you better hurray theres a star trek convention on the space channel

Chill out. Listen... these boards are for a very specific purpose: hacking TiVos. You're asking an incredible general question that has NOTHING to do with what these forums are about. You can't be surprised with the response.

Also, these are not public boards... available to the public, yes, but they're run by private individuals, for specific purposes. And answering questions for people who have put no effort into getting an answer to a completely unrelated question IS NOT one of the purposes.

Just curious, how did you find out about these forums? I ask because there is an incredible influx of IM-culture, hopelessly presumptive, informal and stream-of-ritalin-fueled-conciousness questions and I have no idea where they come from.

nows heres my opinion, and this will be the last of it. I asked a simple question. Is there a way to HACK a dtivo to run without dtv. That to me relates to hacking tivos. It was answered, (thanks you psxboy) This is the NEWBIE forum is it not. Did I mistakingly place this in the advanced hacking forum? So what you are saying is you want me to find the answer to my question before i ask my question, which would in fact, negate the need of a forum.

As far a being a public forum, i see advertising on this page. Hence the need for the Public to come to these pages, making this a public forum.

This will be the last time i come here, so i really dont care, but the people that do run this, and generate a revenue from the adveristising, might want to keep people like these from discouraging others come to this site.
A question was asked in a NEWBIE forum-it was answered-which should have been the end of it-until people who obviously feel that their 2 cents means something.

And as for ritalin comment-i am not the one with the extra energy to go around crapping in other peoples threads

This is NOT a public forum. It receives no government funding.

No revenue is being produced from dealdatabase. And since this "...will be the last time" you come here, does it really matter what I say, since you won't be here to read it ?

Bye-Bye

Actually they try to keep freetvers like yourself out so that they can avoid lawsuits that cost them money. Looks like my comment did just that, thank you drive through.
