How about giving some info on what type of tivo you have, and what changes you've made to your tivo?

And whether you're using HyperTerminal to telnet in or for serial access. If the former, try a command line version instead:

telnet 192.168.0.10 (or whatever you're TiVo's address is--mine's 'tivo')

and see what you get.

Also information on exactly what you are trying to do. For instance what address do you tell telnet to connect to, what port, stuff like that.

Also for the networking stuff that does work, what is it, what addresses are you using and what ports.

Yes, I have a suggestion: occasional upper casing, paragraphs and punctuation. This is not AIM, and we're not on ritalin.

I'm thinking maybe you need a four number (node?) address. For instance: 192.168.0.101 or 192.168.1.101 or whatever. Try that and get back to us.

Did you use Sleeper's ISO to monte and hack?

PlainBill

yes it i can ping it succesfuly.

Given that you can ping the TiVo sucessfully, ther's nothing wrong with the router, cables, ip address, etc.

This sounds like a human error; we REALLY need the following information:
Version of software - from the system Information screen
Model number of TiVo - from the back of the system.
How you monte'd the system - Manually, Sleeper's TiVoScripts, or manually.

Give complete answers - 'sw 4' isn't an answer, it's a hint!

I agree with Plainbill at this point,,, perhaps tivoftpd is not installed...
or is, but not loading..or maybe it's time to build or buy the old serial cable
for a direct connect..

You cannot connect to the tivo through telnet because you have not modified it. A stock tivo does not allow telnet access.

The initial hacks on the tivo require the drive to be pulled and cannot be peformed across the network because there is no way to connect to the tivo across the network until it is hacked.

Read the sticky thread regarding tivoscripts (sleepers iso) in the series 2 support forum for information on the easiest way to hack a series 2 tivo.
