What OS version did you have on the HDVR2? If it was OS version 3.1.0 or older then it won't work on a RID unit like the DSR704. If it was at 3.1.1, 3.1.1b, or 3.1.1c it should have worked.

it was 3.1.1-01-2-301

That image should be OK to use on the 704. You indicated that the HDVR2 was modded. What info do you have on the mods that were installed? You may be better off getting an unmodified image to use on your 704. At the very least I'd try restoring the image to the 704 and see if it fixes the problem. Chances are the image got hosed somewhere along the line.

Unless you took special steps, this won't work. You can't back up a monte'd drive by the usual method. And if you DID take the proper steps, you have to Monte the drive BEFORE installing it in the DVR704. Best to follow CV's advice and start with an unhacked image.
