Just found out about this. Might be useful. Need to test.

Hope it supports the goofy DTiVo flags. d7o, you around? Maybe this has some helpful stuff in it.

too bad its GPL and not LGPL. Oh well, that can be handled.

My actual point was going to be maybe if it doesn't support the funky DTV tags someone around here could look into fixing the support. Having talked to JDiner about it, writing a proper demuxer shouldn't be to terribly difficult.

What would be more interesting is adding protection/recovery for damaged streams. Basically what I mean by that is if you get some bit of the stream thats damaged do your best to figure out what should go there (even if you add some black space or something) so that you don't crash and you give some output (dropping frames is bad if you want audio to line up).

yup, we just might end up with a DTiVoTyTool-friendly realtime codec. Would be nice to have an optional black overlay of the top 8 lines, too, wouldn't it?

Actually, he isn't writing an mpeg2 decoder. He's writing a directshow filter based upon libmpeg2 (http://libmpeg2.sourceforge.net/).
