Hello, me again, your local n00bie

I'm interested in some recommendations for some good encoders for these 480x480 VOB files.

I notice the VOB's are 480x480 and are marked to be displayed at 640x480. I noticed that the RealNetworks encoder can encode the files and keep them at 480x480 but display them at 640x480. This is great for quality, but I'd also like to have some options, and encode some clips into MPEG4 or WMV.

Also, I'd like to have some command line encoders so that I can script this stuff to encode automatically.

What are some good encoders to use?

(URL's would be greatly appreciated, too)
Thanks in advance!!!

WMEncoder 9 has a pretty simple OM you can script via Javascript. I dunno about your specific requirements, but you can check it out - it's a free download.

As for automatic encoding. Don't know if that's what you are looking for, but check out EtiVo - http://prish.com/EtiVo or on these forums http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34314. It will do the automatic encoding for you. I am also planning on opening up some portions of it so that you can write add-ins for other encoders, if you are interested that is.

Edit:

BTW, you can find WME9 here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

ah, thanks, that helps

I downloaded the Windows Media Encoder and started playing with it yesterday. What command line settings do you recommend for the Windows Media Encoder?

Here is what I tried:
>cscript wmcmd.vbs -input sp.vob -output sp.wmv -v_preproc 1 -v_bitrate 600000

I was able to make a video that was 1/4 the original size. What bitrate do you recommend? Are there any other settings you recommend?

Also, does anyone know of a good MPEG4 encoder to use? Does DivX have a command line encoder? Is it free?

thanks in advance!!
