What images are compatable with the SIR-S4040R, ie DSR7000, hdvr2, dvr40, dvr39. Also if you made a image of a hard drive that had all of the hacks installed would the hacks be in the image? Just getting started so please be gentle. :)

The one that came with your hard drive. You did make a backup didn't you?

If not try to find a backup of the same model.

If all else fails look on the sticker on the back of your reciever. If it has RID number then you can use dvr40 image. If not you can use use any other s2 image.

I have 2 sir-s4040r units if I use the tivo scripts CD that I made and follow the directions about making a backup before doing any hacks and then restore onto the new 160g hard drive along with all the hacks and put back into the dtivo and everything works can I again remove this drive make another backup to restore to another 160g drive, will all of the hacks on the old drive be backed up and they passed onto the new drive so there would be no need of any futher setup of the drive. ie. all hacks now being operational on both drives now. I know that this may sound somewhat out there but looking at saving some time here. Or are there som extra steps that will need to be preformed?

I have the same set up you are trying. I am still a newbie at this but will help what I can. What you are trying should work, but I am not sure if original image is IRD specific. Make sure you have the lastest update (3.1.1c). The only problem I see is if you are putting both units on a network you will need seperate IP addresses. You could always edit them later if needed.
