How do I edit files on restored drive?

I downloaded a 3.1.1c image for my DVR40 which claims to be already hacked. I restored the image to a 120GB drive and it seems to work fine when installed in my DTivo, but I'm unable to ping or otherwise access it via the network. I'm guessing that it's because I have no idea what the network settings are, so how can I mount the drive on my PC? I'm assuming that it can be done with MFSTools, but I can't figure it out. Can someone tell me the steps necessary to mount the drive and view/edit files?
