Did you perform the initial call prior to performing the upgrade? The Tivo may be requesting that you make the initial call as part of the setup process. If the Tivo has never dialed out then go ahead and connect the phone line and force it to make the initial test call. It will download a list of local access numbers to complete the setup process. Disconnect the phone line and the nag message should eventually go away.

yes the tivo was being used for a few months prior to the upgrade. do i need to have it make another call after I ran tivo scripts?

You shouldn't have to. Are you subbed to the DVR service with DTV? If not then that could be your problem.

Check the system information screen and see what the last call status is. It should indicate that it succeeded. If it shows that it failed then you probably don't have fixsub running on your Tivo. Connect to your Tivo and get a bash prompt and then type in "ps x" (without the quotes) to see what processes are currently running. If you don't see fixsub listed then you'll have to either run it manually or set it up again from scratch. Transfer a copy of your rc.sysinit.author file to your PC and look to see if the line is indicated where fixsub is called. If it's there then check the directory that's listed to confirm that the file is actually installed and made executable.

If anything is not where it's supposed to be then you will have to install fixsub/nophone/fakecall manually from scratch. Check out Sleeper's tpm package with the fakecall script for the easiest method of installing the program.

the last attmpt failed.
Doesnt the sleepers ISO with the full monte option automatically do that?

if not to access the bash prompt I need a serial cable right?

Can I just try to install sleepers fake call script? or will I still need a to do the bash stuff?

Sleeper's tivoscript should indeed install the fixsub script and set it up to run at bootup. You might just try rebooting the Tivo and see if that takes care of it. It may have simply terminated for some reason and a reboot should get it started again.

If you don't have a serial cable I'd strongly advise that you either purchase one or make your own. It's an invaluable tool for troubleshooting your Tivo if you can't connect via ethernet.

I'd check and make sure that fixsub is not actually working or installed before trying to install a similar program. There's no point in having two different programs running on your Tivo that are trying to do the same thing.

Ok I restarted my system here is what happened:
1) the first time it hung up and I got random noise on the screen before startup
2)the 2nd time, I got random noise on the screen before startup, then it said that it had trouble acuireing the guide, I chose whatch live TV. when I try to force the call it says failed

does it matter and would it help if i connected the phone (I have not installed it in my RV yet)?

does this mean I need a serial cable?

You need a serial cable any time you need to figure out what's going wrong. How do you even know that TivoScripts installed properly? Capture the output of your serial port when you boot and post it.
