Newbie hacking (Starting out)

Hi all,

I'm new to Tivo, though I've lots of experience with UTV. I've been scanning the newbie forums and reading about the Sleeper ISO, but I have a question (which may be answered in this forum) that I can't find the answer to.

I've got the Sleeper ISO. I'm going to boot my PC from the CD (FAT32 primary HDD, bootable CD slave, Tivo HDD slave), and follow the prompts.

So here's my question, rather than use the Tivo HDD, can I substitute a larger one instead? I'd like to use a Western Digital 1200JB (120gig). Will this drive work? Do I need to put a Tivo "image" on it before I use Sleeper?

Yes, it will work fine. What I have done is restored/expanded an image to a larger drive with mfstools in the usual manner. Booted it in the TiVo to make sure it works. Then, attached the drive to the PC according to Sleepers instructions, and proceeded to do Sleeper's surgery and hacks phases, skipping restore and backup.

If you do the backup from the original drive with Sleeper's tivoscript and then restore the image to the 120GB drive it will automatically expand and fill the drive. It's basically the same as what SR712 told you but Sleeper's program automates the process. The program shuts down the PC between the backup and restore phase and again between the restore and surgery phases so you can test the drive in the Tivo before proceeding.

I am also a noob and I am wanting to hack my DTivo. I hacked my fathers series 1 for him a christmas ago (wireless, tivoweb, tystudio) and liked what I was able to do for him and the additonal functionality I got out of the box. But, after doing my research i see that a series 2 DTivo is a lot more complicated than the series one.

My biggest question is what are the main differences between the Sleeper ISO and the Sleeppix ISO. I know that the main Sleeper ISO automates the process in one large script and the Sleeppix ISO has no automated scripts. But after downloading both ISO's and i do not see where on the Sleepix ISO there are readme's for the installation of hacks for the Tivo.

Am I missing something???
