Hello,
I've extracted a tystream and multiplexed it to MPEG with tytools. When I burn the SVCD with EasyVCD and Nero I get good picture quality, but the video appears to be smashed into 2/3 of the screen on the left side.
Can anyone point me to settings or procedure to get MPEG output to fit to a standard NTSC aspect ratio?
Thanks,
Dave

It sounds like your DVD player doesn't like the 480X480 aspect ratio. I'm assuming you have a DirecTivo since that's the native resolution it records in. The problem lies with your DVD player and not the DTivo. It's needs to be compatibnle with SVCDs since they are 480X480 resolution by default. I'd look into getting another player that's more current. Best Buy had a Cyberhome model on sale last week for something ridiculous like $36.00. I bought one of these for my daughter last year and it works great with tyDVDs.

Thanks for the reply!
Is there any way to change this 480x480 default. I know I've made SVCDs before from DVD's using tmpeg and the output was the proper aspect ratio.
Is it tytools that sets this ratio by default, or the svcd authoring tool?
After some searching it looks like I need to tweak the DAR setting which is a flag in the MPEG2 stream. Is there anyone familiar with this? Am I on the right track?

If you have a DirecTiVo, then that's the resolution it was recorded in, and if your DVD player is incompatible you'll have to re-encode the video using TMPEGENC or similar. Or get a new DVD player.

You'll be better off getting a new DVD player than trying to re-encode the video. The picture quality will suffer if you re-encode and it will take a lot longer to process the videos before you can author them. The tradeoffs aren't worth it, IMO.
