First, you said youve read a lot, but you really didnt tell us what you do and dont know... Do you know how to set up the Dtivo HD in the PC? Are you not understanding how to add hacks? Be a little more specific in what you have, what you know, and what you need to know :)
I would start with this thread Sleeper ISO (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28921) Its LONG, but its worth reading....
Basically you need to download Sleeper ISO and have a PC with a CD rom and a Fat32 Partition
You run Sleepers script, follow the prompts and your have a hacked Tivo.
If I were you I would post at least what you know so far so we can help you in the next steps.
Another good site is Steve Jenkins (http://tivo.stevejenkins.com/)
Good Luck

If only it was that simple!
you can't just connect the usb... there's no way to hack an s2 tivo without opening it, removing the HD, and modifying it on another computer. This could be VERY difficult on a laptop. Looks like you've got a lot more reading to do.

It's covered in the support thread.
That's right... why spend 2 seconds giving the answer, when you can spend 4 seconds, and send the person to a 1300+ message thread?
It may be just me, but in the newbie thread, I don't think "rtfm" is an appropriate response (paraphrased). Either be helpful, or don't post.
SGK: you want to use "monte"

Simple: There are 20+ ways to screw up when using TiVoScripts. MOST of them are discussed in the first three pages of the thread. This particular question is answered in the first message on the first page of that thread - right after the part that says "PLEASE READ THIS THREAD BEFORE USING - ESPECIALLY THE PART ABOUT THE REPORTED PROBLEMS OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD".
