Do i have to have a phone line for initial setup or can i use my network the first time. I'm not really sure b/c i was in HiFi Buys yesterday and the "resident expert" told me that i had to have a phone line and couldn't use a broadband connection at all. In otherwords he said it wasn't possible to use broadband at any point. Obviously he's a moron. I currently don't have a LAN line (all i have is my cell phone), so i guess if need be i can take my series 2 tivo (yet to be purchased, to a friends place for initial set up. Also, it looks as if i am unable to get satellite tv in my apartment, i'm trying to figure out the best way to watch TV and record something else on the same tv. I know how to do it so that i run my cable directly into my tv and use a spliter. However, this allows me to only watch my non-premium channels while recording a program. Furthermore i won't be able to rewind live tv if it's recording. I thought of using two cable boxes on the same tv, but i think that would cause rf interference. Any suggestions?

Your life will be much easier if you let your Tivo make some initial calls after you purchase it (initialize the subscription, get software updates..etc).

You are correct about the cable boxes..etc. The only way to get rewind on two live channels (without getting DirecTivo) is to get 2 tuners + 2 Tivos. Maybe you should consider moving. ;) I used to have SA Tivos, but I love my DirecTivo now. Good luck.
