Hi,

I currently have the ReplayTV 40GB recorder. I recently cancelled it b/c I was paying $15 a month, but am trying to save up for the lifetime membership but before I do, I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions as to whether I should try to trade it in for Tivo. Is there any real difference between the two? I know when I first got the ReplayTV I had a lot of problems setting it up and had to reset the box several times with tech support so I question how good the unit or company really is. No one even talks about ReplayTV here. Thanks ahead of time for any advice!

The main reson they don't talk about ReplayTV here is because it's a Tivo hacking forum. There's a lot more info on ReplayTVs at the AVS Forums. I doin't have any experience with the newer Sonic Blue Replay models but I have owned both Panasonic Showstoppers and ReplayTV branded models. At the time I liked them far better than SA Tivos since I carried a ReplayTV with me everywhere I went on my job, I did a lot of travelling and liked to be able to return to my hotel in the evening and have a lineup of shows to watch. I preferred the Replay of the Tivo because it only took about 20 minutes from the time I unpacked it to where I was able to start scheduling shows to record. The SA Tivos took hours to set up back then so the quick setup was one of the major attractions. The older models also do not requre a subscription service to get the guide data so there were no extra charges after you paid for the box.
