Help with converting .ty to xvid

Hi,
got a series 1 thompson tivo in the uk, all setup so i can grab the ty files using tytools... its then I get stuck.

Does anyone have.. a nice simple guide to converting a ty to a nice xvid or divx ( from 1.6 gig to approximatley 400 meg without choppyness, blur or interlacing )
