Has anyone made a proper MPEG2 -> TiVo converter?

If so, is this possible on the fly?

FWIW, I'm very interested in building a Win2K version of Riley's carousel to stream through VideoLAN. Am also wondering if it's possible to have a client runnig on a DTiVo such that it would play from the stream, not the TiVo's hard drives.

I'm still a far away, but I think I have figured out most of it now. I can't see any reason it couldn't be done the fly. Tivo will play a stream okay with a bad master chunk (i.e. a bad master table of contents), it will just have some issues when you try to ff and rw.
