I have 3.1.1c and enjoy the many features such as Showcases (I used the sc.tcl) and other stuff...
If I upgrade to 4.0 what features will I lose...thx
I look around however all I could find was positive what I would gain but I would like to know what I sacrifice for HMO and stuff....
Thx... :)

3.1.1c was written specifically for HDVR2. While 4.0 is for the standalone. The only thing that I think you will lose is some bug-fixes from DTV. Not 100% sure, but I think there are also some hack that isn't working completely on 4.0. But the major functionalities will all be there + folders + HMO..etc.

I haven't seen anything missing. I still have my showcases. The only thing that bothered me was the acquiring guide data bug, which somebody has released a patch for (4.0 only, as is the superpatch, not that they couldn't be ported...) I have also still very occasionally noticed the audio dropout bug, but nowhere near as often as I did pre-3.1.1c.
I'm not sure about the sc.tcl script, as I never used anything like that. What was it for?

I used the sc.tcl to activate my showcases due to the fact I wasnt using a phone line...
So basically if I have an HDVR2 and enjoy hacking things it would be stupid for me NOT to get 4.0.....
One last question is what was this guide bug (that was fixed) {just curious}...
I also have the WUSB12 usb linksys for getting ftp, telnet, tivoweb n' stuff... Will the same wlan-ng-tivo.tar.zip drivers work....
Thx :)

Gotcha. Well, they work fine for me without a phone line.

Basically, there was a message at the bottom of any screen that looked ahead at the guide data, and it made those screens go MUCH slower. Some people even lost items off their todo list. MuscleNerd's fix works excellently for 4.0.

Hmm, no idea about wireless with 4.0. But I'm pretty sure that the wireless drivers were included with 4.0? Maybe yours isn't supported or wasn't supported until 4.0.1b.

thx for all the info... :)
My final question is I heard from other people that 4.0 software on a hdvr2 reboots every day, is this true?

What is the audio dropout bug? (Specifically what happens? - I know it has to do with trickplay). I have never had it since my HDVR2 started with 3.1.1b. Now that my hard drive crashed, I was going to restore and rehack 3.1.1c but with the HMO patch I might as well go to 4.0 unless the problem is bad. Bad audio is not worth folders, HMO, etc.
Thanks,
David

My final question is I heard from other people that 4.0 software on a hdvr2 reboots every day, is this true?Nope. (but I've been messing with stuff so much since I hacked I don't think it's been running a full 24hrs with no reboots.... But it doesn't reboot on it's own overnight.)

It was an annoying little bug that showed up about 5-15 seconds after a trickplay. (so you just finish fast forwarding through commercials, put the remote down, get a drink, DANG IT, WHAT DID HE SAY??). Extremely annoying. I know, I know, I have no business putting the remote down when watching tivo.
That being said, I have experienced something that reminded me of that bug twice now with 4.0. But that's twice in 1 week. It used to happen 10+ times an evening. It's probably not the same thing. I would say go for it if you're going to rehack. Just pay special attention to the tips for 4.0 on dtivo thread. Sleeperscripts work, but need slight modifications afterwards (it wasn't exactly designed for this).

There are 3 more things that should be noted of 4.x and 5.x:
1) Much of the tivosh-based software (Tivowebplus, mfs_ftp, etc.) rely on a command called "vwait" which is, well not exactly broken, but "damaged" in 4+. It can make some tivos sluggish, especially if both programs are running concurrently.
More info and a solution can be found here: http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?p=170610
2) To the best of my knowledge, 4+ do NOT have the dreaded "event bug". This is good news, but they accomplished this by:
3) Tivo removed some event support from tivosh. Because of this, tivosh programs can't (at this time) receive or send keypresses from the remote. This breaks a few programs, including a few neat features in TWP. mfs_ftp is unaffected, except for bookmark juggling.
