View Full Version : Can't Find Slices (or Loadslice) for Upgrade to 4.0.1b-02-2-240 SW on SA Tivo

I'm a brand-new newbie (this is my first post) with a monte'd (thanks Sleeper) S2 SA currently running 4.0.1b-01-2-240 software.
I understand I need to upgrade to software version 4.0.1b-02-2-240 in order to solve the following problems:
- Daily reboot with "pending restart" problem
- 30 second skip is undone each day due to above problem
I've been doing the appropriate forum reading. I do not want to use the "easy" method and "re-sleeper from scratch" as I would like to preserve my unencrypted recordings and also season passes, etc. I have read the posts by plainbill and malfunct with step-by-step directions on how to upgrade a current monte'd tivo.
The only steps I haven't been able to understand are how to find or access the 4.0.1b-02-2-240 "slices" that apparently have been downloaded and use LoadSlice.
My questions:
(1) How do I find these slices if they are on my tivo?
(2) Where can I get them? If they are not on my tivo, am I "out of luck"? (I looked for appropriate slices on e-mule and could not find any)
(3) Where do I find "Loadslice"?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you've got an SA S2, your slices have likely already been "dbloaded" into the MBS DB. Fire up TivoWeb and check the SwSystem directory in MFS. It should show 4.0.1b-01-2-240 and 4.0.1b-02-2-240, with the ACTIVE link pointing to 4.0.1b-01-2-240. Furthermore, your tclient log should show something along the lines of "Checking for new software: 4.0.1b-02-2-240 is present but not active".
If that's the case, you don't need to dbload the slices as that step has already been done for you by the Tivo. You can proceed directly to the part about "fixing" your bootpage settings and running installSW.itcl. After that you can either use Sleeper's Tivoscripts ISO to do the surgery and hacks part, or you can do it manually.

If you are already rebooting daily, then your slices are already loaded.

Thanks PSXBOY and MALFUNCT, that set me straight. I'm up and running in perfect working order!
Case closed.

I've got a monte'd Sony SA S2 with the same "pending restart" problem, and my SwSystem and tclient log show slightly different info then what psxboy said should be there. Namely, my tclient log shows "SwSystem 4.0.1b-02-2-110 is present but NOT active.", and my SwSystem shows 4.0-01-2-110, 4.0.1-01-2-110, 4.0.1b-02-2-110, with the ACTIVE one set to 4.0.1-01-2-110. I don't see 4.0.1b-02-2-240 anywhere.
I have reset numerous times, and get the same values. It seems like I'm missing the appropriate slices, and I'm unsure how to tell my tivo to get them. Should I follow PlainBill's steps to upgrade, but install my software slices labeled "4.0.1b-02-2-110" instead of the specified "4.0.1b-02-2-240" since the "4.0.1b-02-2-110" slices appears to be the newest software not yet active in my tivo?

The last 3 digits are model specific, the version you have "present but not active" is the correct one. Upgrade to that and don't worry about hunting down slices.

Yah... sorry about that guys. As I only have an SA S2, I get to learn things every once in a while too. :) The model-specific identifiers at the end of the SWSystem versions is just another one of those things...
Guys, feel free to smack me around if I get too out of line. ;)

Eh, until the last week or so I didn't know that either :) Just have to keep reading and stocking things away in that big database in your head.
