I recently installed a 4.0 image. Everything seems to go well. I cleared and deleted everything. Monted it. I received no errors when I dont this. I noticed under the system info it says the call failed. And also when I tried to record a show it said it was recording it. And it also shows up inside the Now Playing section. When I select a show to watch it instantly goes to the "Do you want to delete or keep this show." Then I select keep, then it shows me a Tivo Error and says that the channel I tried to record did not have a signal and maybe i tried to record a channel I dont receive. Which i know is wrong. Does any have any ideas what the problem might be?

Nero534 -

For some reason I had the exact same issue on my SA. To fix it I downloaded and installed the Noscramble TPM and ran csoscout.tcl. All is well in the world of TiVo recordings now...

On 4.0 you need to have the tivoapp patch that goes along with the kmem patch. On 3.x you didn't need a tivoapp patch.

Mpauley gives the best advice however, remove the kmem patch and use the patch listed in his post as well as using csoscout to remove the bad keys from any currently recorded shows.

I appericate the feedback, but I am a newbie. How would one go about removing the stuff you stated and installing the other?

Lots of reading is what being a newbie is about, there is a sticky thread in the extraction forum that is all about the new noscramble patch. It explains most everything about it, the rest you can probably figure out on your own.

Allot of reading is right!!! I've been doing just that and am still working through issues related to a 4.x upgrade. In regards to your problem, in case you haven't solved it, and for others who may be looking for a solution, you need to get rid of any noscramble hack - as the TiVo gurus pointed out in various posts, the previous noscramble hacks are outdated and if run on a 4.x installation, they will prevent playback of recordings, as your issue describes.

In my case, commenting out KMEM and rebooting did the trick. Then follow Alphawolf's post for the current method of removing scrambling from all recordings (btw, thanks allot Alphawolf - I've been following your posts here and elsewhere and am very gratefull and respectful of your work & knowledge).

True the kmem/tivoapp patch is outdated. What is not true is that 'if run on 4.x it will prevent playback of recordings.'

What it will do is prevent playback of recordings that were recorded when the tivo was not hacked and recorded them in scrambled mode.

The old kmem in conjuntion with tivoapp patch works fine through the current version 4.0.1b-02. You can extract burn or anything. What you can't do is watch old scrambled recordings, of which I have none. There are other minor differences that aren't worth getting into.

That said, I do recommend that newly hacked tivo's use the NoCSO patch, which is simply a tivoapp patch in a different location that doesn't required kmem.

When editing /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author others use different methods. Before you do this thiugh I would suggest doing a search on google for VI Commands.

There are detailed instructions for commenting out kmem located in the Sleepers ISO thread. I know because I posted them. The Tivoapp patch has instructions as well look up my post on "math" . Try to read up and understand what you are doing before you do it in case you need to back out of it or correct any errors you made. It's taken me months to piece it all together and I have a very rudimentary understanding along with 10-12 pages of "notes" depending on what I am doing.
