I have a DirecTIVO unit (DSR7000). It's a 35 hour unit, and I was thinking that I'd like to put in a nice 200-250GB hard drive.

I've tried reading around the sticky posts, but it sounds like y'all are doing a lot more advanced stuff than this. Maybe someday I'll get more advanced, but for now I'd really be happy to just increase the hard drive space.

There are several sites that want to sell me a solution, but what else do I have to do beside open the case and replace the drive? I assume there is some initialization of the drive that has to be done, but I'm not clear where to find out how to do that.

Many thanks

If you just want to add/replace with a bigger drive yourself, then Hinsdale's Guide (http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hinsdale-how-to/) is your friend.

If you plan to buy something off sites/ebay, it is best to email ask those sellers what you need to do. Usually involves removing case, removing drive, put new drive in (possibly new drive brackets/cables), and put the case back on (without left over screws).

Just remember that unless you add LBA support, you will only be able to get 137GB of space out of your 200 or 250GB drive... Search for "LBA support" or "137" for more info on this. I recommend adding a 120GB or 160GB drive to your current drive.
